PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Phillip McCrackin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Illy Niccolo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Illy Niccolo will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Phillip McCrackin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Illy Niccolo!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Leandro Rodrigues and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCrackin fails with an attempt to clinch.
McCrackin has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from McCrackin there as he acknowledges the shot.


It looks like Phillip McCrackin has been cut.
Niccolo darts in trying to clinch

and McCrackin counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
McCrackin postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
McCrackin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
McCrackin working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
McCrackin might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
McCrackin trying to control but Niccolo is working from the bottom.

McCrackin thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
McCrackin throwing strikes from guard but Niccolo blocks nicely.

McCrackin drops back looking for a leg! Niccolo is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Niccolo manages to kick McCrackin off! McCrackin jumps back into Niccolo's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Niccolo keeping moving, preventing McCrackin from controlling successfully.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Niccolo can do anything to dispel that myth.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
McCrackin tries to clinch up

and Niccolo counters by moving into the clinch.
Niccolo gets underhooks to prevent McCrackin's takedown attempt.

McCrackin gets control of Niccolo's arms and successfully pulls guard. McCrackin will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
McCrackin controls Niccolo momentarily but Niccolo frees himself.

McCrackin working for submissions but it's allowed Niccolo to get to half guard.
McCrackin is trying to get back to full guard.

McCrackin actively working from the bottom here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McCrackin wants to improve his position but Niccolo is controlling well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

McCrackin is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Niccolo pulls his head out easily.

Niccolo escapes and gets back to his feet.

Niccolo has McCrackin up against the cage in a clinch.
McCrackin is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Niccolo gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
McCrackin has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Niccolo is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Phillip McCrackin. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Niccolo lands an uppercut.
McCrackin goes for a takedown in the clinch but Niccolo prevents it.
McCrackin is breathing heavily.
McCrackin goes for a takedown attempt but Niccolo pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Niccolo moves into the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
McCrackin fails to pull guard.
McCrackin looking for a takedown.
McCrackin is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Niccolo gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
McCrackin keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Niccolo's efforts to push away.

McCrackin has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Niccolo is trying to keep an underhook but McCrackin manages to get the takedown into half guard.

McCrackin is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Niccolo is controlling McCrackin's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Niccolo looks like he's trying to stand up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Illy Niccolo will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Phillip McCrackin's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Niccolo tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and McCrackin counters by clinching up.
Niccolo prevents the takedown attempt.
McCrackin tries for a takedown. No joy.
McCrackin tries to score a body lock takedown but Niccolo shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Phillip McCrackin. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Niccolo breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

McCrackin darts in and clinches Niccolo up against the cage.

Niccolo lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of McCrackin backwards.
McCrackin drops down looking for an ankle pick but Niccolo pulls his leg out and moves away.
Phillip McCrackin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Niccolo cracks McCrackin with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! McCrackin looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Niccolo finish him?
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Niccolo with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Niccolo connects with a picture perfect right hand that knocks McCrackin out cold! This one is over in a flash!
