The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stalin shoots in for a takedown but Stoudemire shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

and Stalin counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stalin trying to control the position from guard on top but Stoudemire is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Stalin drops back, looking for a kneebar! Stoudemire looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Stoudemire looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Stoudemire!
Stalin is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Stalin is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Stoudemire's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Stoudemire will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Stoudemire throws and elbow that misses. Stalin uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Stoudemire's guard. Nice move by Stalin!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Stalin drops back looking for a leg! Stoudemire is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Stoudemire manages to kick Stalin off! Stalin jumps back into Stoudemire's guard.

Stalin seems to be looking for submissions.
Stalin seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Stoudemire does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Stoudemire defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Stalin.

Stalin has hold of Stoudemire's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Stoudemire manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Stalin might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Stoudemire kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Stalin wants to finish this one by submission but Stoudemire is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Stalin.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Stalin takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Stalin throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Stoudemire was covering up waiting for the punch and Stalin finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Despite being in the dominant position, Joseph Stalin just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Stalin wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Stoudemire has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
