PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Orlando Gomez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Romulo Correa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gomez comes to the cage accompanied by Something in your Mouth. Correa is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Paranoid. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Orlando Gomez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Romulo Correa!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Mauricio Rocha and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gomez shoots for a takedown but Correa saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Gomez looks for the body kick but Correa saw that one coming.

Correa shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Correa controlling the action here.
Correa missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Gomez trying to control but Correa postures up.
Correa looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Gomez with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Gomez is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Gomez doesn't manage to clinch there - Correa circles away.

Correa shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Gomez napping and manages to drive through into side control!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Correa can do anything to dispel that myth.

Correa takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

and Correa counters with a single leg into guard. Gomez didn't expect that.

Correa is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Gomez bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Correa's guard.

Romulo Correa showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Well Correa has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
