PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ima Llama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Avipriya Santharam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Avipriya Santharam told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Avipriya Santharam!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Dillan Fox and Steve Smith.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Llama keeps the fight on the outside.
Santharam wants to clinch up but Llama keeps it at a distance.

Santharam fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Llama, pushing him back against the cage.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Santharam.
Santharam creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Llama's defenses.
Santharam using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Llama has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Santharam comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Santharam misses with a knee strike.
Llama tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Llama tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Santharam smiles and moves away.
Santharam throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Santharam tries to clinch up but Llama circles away and keeps his distance.
Llama tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Santharam swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ima Llama. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Santharam tries to close the distance and clinch up but Llama swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Santharam fails with an attempt to clinch.

Llama fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Santharam sprawls well initially but Llama persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Llama passes the guard and advances to mount!

Llama is working for a guillotine from mount but Santharam frees his head quite easily.
Santharam is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Llama can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Santharam is looking to escape.

Santharam defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Llama.
Llama wants to control the pace but Santharam is squirming around nicely.
Santharam really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Llama. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Llama with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Llama jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Santharam manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Santharam tries to buck Llama off but Llama is having none of it.
Santharam is trying to control Llama's posture but Llama avoids it.

Llama working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Santharam tries to bench press Llama off him but Llama keeps the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Llama wants to lay and pray for a moment but Santharam keeps working.

Llama is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Santharam is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
You can see the frustration on Santharam's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Llama is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Santharam knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Llama wants to lay and pray for a moment but Santharam keeps working.

Llama has an Americana. Santharam didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Llama is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Llama hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
