PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jonny Do (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vladimir Kouzmanoff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jonny Do!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Vladimir Kouzmanoff!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Dillan Fox and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Do fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kouzmanoff sprawls well initially but Do persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Do is taking a breather. Kouzmanoff says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Do thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kouzmanoff's head.
Kouzmanoff landing rabbit punches to the side of Do's head. Not doing much damage but still scoring a few points.
Do lands strikes from half guard.
Kouzmanoff is staying active underneath Do, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Do is looking to stall here but Kouzmanoff recovers full guard.
Kouzmanoff wants to stand up but Do is controlling him.
Do trying to control the position from guard on top but Kouzmanoff is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kouzmanoff looking for a sweep. Not yet Kouzmanoff, not yet.

Do with a nice head shot there.
Do showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Kouzmanoff can't keep his opponent in guard - Do advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Do is just content to waste time from the top position. Kouzmanoff takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Do wants to control from the top but Kouzmanoff keeps moving.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kouzmanoff working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Do.
Kouzmanoff is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Kouzmanoff wants to stand up but Do is controlling him.
Do not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Do tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Do feints and as Kouzmanoff raises his hands in defense, Do changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Kouzmanoff is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Do has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Kouzmanoff is trying to keep an underhook but Do manages to get the takedown into half guard.

and Do counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Do breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Kouzmanoff lands with a nice combination. Do backs away looking to recover.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jonny Do dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Jonny Do is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kouzmanoff misses with a head kick.

Do clinches up against the cage.
Kouzmanoff softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.

Do breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Do tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Do fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Kouzmanoff tries for a takedown but Do circles away easily

Vladimir Kouzmanoff seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Do counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Kouzmanoff!
Do in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kouzmanoff is trying to stand up here but Do is controlling him well.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kouzmanoff has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Do is working away from the top position though.
Do prevents Kouzmanoff from standing back up.
Kouzmanoff misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Kouzmanoff wants to get back to his feet.
Kouzmanoff tries to get to full guard but Do has control of the leg.
Do tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kouzmanoff knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Do is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kouzmanoff is just riding it out for now. Do eventually gives up the hold.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Do closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kouzmanoff circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jonny Do. That's going to take a lot out of him.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kouzmanoff gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Do moves into the clinch.
Do tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Kouzmanoff just stands there and leans against the cage.
Do is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Do tries to pull guard but Kouzmanoff holds him up against the cage and eventually Do drops back down to his feet.

Kouzmanoff works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Do working a defensive guard here.

Do working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kouzmanoff doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kouzmanoff manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Do doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Do punching from the bottom - just letting Kouzmanoff know he's still in a fight.
Do might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Do wants to sweep but no luck.
Do with a couple of shots from the bottom there - nothing Kouzmanoff can't handle though.

Do manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Do shoots in and bounces Kouzmanoff off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Kouzmanoff fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Do.
Do slips a jab and a cross from Kouzmanoff.
Kouzmanoff lands with a kick to the temple. Do shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"


It looks like Jonny Do has been cut.

Kouzmanoff seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Do taking some punishment here, with Kouzmanoff in his half guard.
Do flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Vladimir Kouzmanoff comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Do has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
