The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Seu Braga and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bates is trying hard to land a takedown here. Valenzuela sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Bates displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Valenzuela throws out the jab.
Valenzuela drops Bates with a beautiful combination! Bates stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Valenzuela is looking for the KO!
Bates is rocked!
It looks like Micheal Bates has been cut.

Valenzuela dips to his left and cracks Bates with an uppercut!
Valenzuela misses with a hook.
Valenzuela throws a nice looking combination but Bates bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Bates.
Bates throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Valenzuela's waist but Valenzuela gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bates off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Micheal Bates. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Valenzuela stuffs the takedown attempt from Bates. Bates gets slowly back to his feet.
Valenzuela throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Valenzuela looks to land a left hand but Bates moved out of range nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nice defenses there by Bates.
Bates fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Valenzuela avoids it really well and circles away.
Mateus Valenzuela seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Valenzuela does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Bates drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Bates not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Valenzuela wants to stand but Bates is controlling the position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
A telegraphed right hand from Valenzuela misses the target.
Valenzuela swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Valenzuela misses the shot to the body.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bates gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Valenzuela.
Micheal Bates's cut is getting worse.
Valenzuela missing with a left hand there. Bates was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Valenzuela lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Bates circles away quickly and effectively.

Bates is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Valenzuela can do to turn this around?
Valenzuela wants to slow Bates down by chopping away at his legs.
Bates needs to keep his hands up - Valenzuela had a free shot at his head there.

Valenzuela lands with an uppercut that bounces Bates off the cage and back into rage.

Jeez, Micheal Bates's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Micheal Bates's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
