PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Peter Saint (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anderson Queiroz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Peter Saint!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Queiroz!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Felipe Paraventi and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Queiroz tries to clinch there but Saint circles away.

Saint gets a clinch.
Queiroz tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Queiroz is looking to break free of the clinch but Saint has double underhooks.
Saint lands a nice uppercut.

Saint gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Queiroz regains guard.

Queiroz is looking for a triangle but Saint pushes his legs off easily.

Queiroz is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Queiroz is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Saint stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Queiroz swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Saint controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Queiroz trying to keep a closed guard but Saint is proving a slippery customer.
Saint looking to sit in guard and control but Queiroz gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Saint tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Saint working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Queiroz.

Saint seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Saint looking to hit a scissor sweep but Queiroz is one step ahead there.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

and Saint counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Saint.

Saint ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Saint no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Saint wants to sweep but no luck.
Queiroz would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Queiroz wants to stand and escape but instead Saint has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Saint winds up and cracks Queiroz with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Queiroz wants to control the action here but instead Saint manages to pass to full mount!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Queiroz tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Saint counters with a shoot takedown. Queiroz fights it but they end up in guard.
Saint trying to control the position from guard on top but Queiroz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Saint passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.

Saint stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Queiroz to get to his feet.
Queiroz closes the distance but Saint moves to the side

and Saint counters with a nice double leg into side control. Queiroz won't be happy with that.
Saint trying to control the position but Queiroz is working away.
Saint remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

With the two fighters working up against the cage, Queiroz just misses with a elbow thrown towards Saint's brow.

Saint has Queiroz pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Saint pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Queiroz tumbling to the mat - Saint dives into Queiroz's guard.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Saint pushes down on Queiroz's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Queiroz wants to control but Saint is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Saint is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Queiroz moves into full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Saint stands and throws Queiroz's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Queiroz is pushing Saint's head away, looking to escape. Saint manages to hold on to the position though.
Queiroz takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Queiroz tries to improve position but can't.
Saint takes a little break here. Queiroz wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Saint decides to stand back up. Saint steps back and let's Queiroz get back to his feet.

Queiroz tries to buck Saint off but Saint is having none of it.

Saint decides to stand up, so the ref orders Queiroz to his feet.
Queiroz tries to clinch up

and Saint counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Queiroz's guard now.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Queiroz is trying to keep Saint in close.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Saint wants to control from the top but Queiroz keeps moving.

Well Saint has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
