PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Puska (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gustavo Padilha (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Puska comes to the cage accompanied by Tupac - Hit Em Up. Puska has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Paul Puska!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gustavo Padilha!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Roosa Järviläinen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Padilha throws a head kick that misses.
Puska leaves Padilha with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
The fight stays on the outside here - Padilha looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Padilha shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Puska but Puska pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Horrible takedown by Padilha or perhaps it was just good defense by Puska which made him look bad.

Puska closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Padilha to the mat! Padilha manages to get full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
A slapping body kick lands there for Padilha.
Puska could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Padilha darts in and clinches Puska up against the cage.

Padilha pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Padilha tries to clinch up but Puska circles away and keeps his distance.

and Puska counters with a shoot takedown. Padilha fights it but they end up in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Puska scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Padilha shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

Puska is keen to just control but Padilha is a slippery customer.
Padilha really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Puska. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Padilha wants to control but Puska is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Puska is taking a breather. Padilha says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Padilha is trying to stand.

Puska decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Padilha closes the distance and clinches.
Padilha jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Puska walks away with a smile on his face. Padilha gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Puska misses with a jab, cross combination.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Padilha wants to clinch up but Puska keeps it at a distance.
Puska takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Puska tries to bum rush Padilha with a series of wild strikes but Padilha uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Gustavo Padilha seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Puska will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Padilha misses with a kick to the body.
Padilha dodges the punch combination from Puska.

Padilha closes the distance and clinches up with Puska, looking for a takedown. Padilha pushes Puska against the cage but Puska circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Puska gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Puska wants to stand up but Padilha is controlling him.

Padilha must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Puska thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Padilha postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Puska has his feet on Padilha's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Padilha shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Puska napping and manages to drive through into side control!
