PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pete Pablo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brandon Kyle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Brandon Kyle was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pete Pablo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brandon Kyle!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, John Roberts and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kyle throws a head kick that Pablo semi-blocks.
Pablo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Kyle shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Kyle perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Pablo trying to hold on to Kyle's head to control him but Kyle postures up.
Kyle prevents Pablo from improving his position.
Kyle tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Pablo.
Pablo is looking for a sweep. Kyle is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kyle tries to pass the half guard into mount. Pablo knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kyle is taking a breather. Pablo says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Pablo is breathing heavily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kyle sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Pablo defending well though.
Pablo is not content to let Kyle control the position.
Kyle controlling the action here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Kyle lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Pablo wants to control but Kyle is keeping busy.
Pablo tries to get to full guard but Kyle has control of the leg.
Kyle is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Kyle wants to stand up but Pablo is controlling the position.

Kyle is keen to just control but Pablo is a slippery customer.
Pablo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kyle is working away from the top position though.
Kyle is trying to control. Pablo wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Kyle gets the takedown into side control.
Kyle wants to lay and pray for a moment but Pablo keeps working.
Pablo is looking to reverse the position.

Kyle is looking to take a break and control but Pablo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Kyle postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Kyle stands up and beckons Pablo to his feet.
Kyle moves in looking to clinch but Pablo pushes him off.
Pablo scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Kyle closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Kyle is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Pablo gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brandon Kyle dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Kyle rushes Pablo and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Kyle lands with a light punch inside.
Pablo wants to break free but Kyle has control.
Kyle jumps guard but Pablo stands there with Kyle around his waist. Kyle gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Kyle drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Pablo gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Kyle tries to pull guard but Pablo won't allow it.
Pete Pablo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brandon Kyle.
Kyle goes for a takedown in the clinch but Pablo prevents it.
Pablo is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Kyle is defending well for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kyle's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Pablo misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Kyle is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Kyle controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Kyle stands and throws Pablo's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Kyle wants to lay and pray for a moment but Pablo keeps working.
Pablo tries to strike from the bottom but misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Pablo seems a little lost for a moment, as Kyle dominates the positioning.
Kyle working the ground and pound.
Kyle is looking to take a break and control but Pablo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Pablo is trying to improve his position.
Pablo is trying to get back to his feet.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kyle works to advance to full mount. Pablo defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Kyle is trying to control here but Pablo has managed to regain half guard.

Despite being in the dominant position, Brandon Kyle just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Kyle closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kyle lands in his opponent's guard.
Pablo keeping moving, preventing Kyle from controlling successfully.
Kyle is pushing down on Pablo's leg trying to pass to half guard. Pablo is fighting to maintain full guard but Kyle has managed to sneak the leg through.
Kyle is figuring out what he wants to do next.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brandon Kyle showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


The fight stays on the outside here - Kyle looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Pablo takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Kyle tries to clinch up.

Kyle is trying to drag Pablo to the mat but Pablo just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Kyle tries to pull guard but Pablo holds him up against the cage and eventually Kyle drops back down to his feet.
Kyle fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Pete Pablo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brandon Kyle.
Pablo misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Pablo prevents a takedown attempt there.
Kyle taking a break, stalling in the clinch.

Kyle breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

and Kyle counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Pablo!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Kyle lands a big elbow.
Kyle lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Pablo working to try and regain half guard.
Kyle tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Kyle is landing with some decent strikes but Pablo is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Pablo is working to get back to half guard.

Kyle throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Pablo has his hands clasped together but Kyle breaks the hold and Pablo is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Kyle!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Brandon Kyle!
