The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Garcia lands a body shot.
Garcia looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Whit is fending him off so far but Garcia persists. Nope, Whit circles away and we're back to standing.

Garcia shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Whit as he jumps to the side.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Whit tries to clinch up but Garcia circles away and keeps his distance.

Garcia uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Whit.

and Garcia counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Whit's guard now.

Garcia has gone for a leg lock! Whit slips out almost immediately though and dives into Garcia's guard.

Garcia pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Garcia is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Whit can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Whit really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Garcia. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The referee warns Whit that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Garcia looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
