The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fernandez instigates a clinch.
Nogueira is trying to break free.
Fernandez tries for a takedown but Nogueira manages to get underhooks.
Nogueira jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Fernandez walks away with a smile on his face. Nogueira gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Fernandez moves into range and clinches up with Nogueira.

Fernandez has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Nogueira regains guard immediately.

Nogueira had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Fernandez defends it easily.
Nogueira is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Fernandez has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Nogueira is working away from the top position though.

Nogueira is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Fernandez is just riding it out for now. Nogueira eventually gives up the hold.
Fernandez wants to get back to full guard but Nogueira has passed into side control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Nogueira can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Fernandez is looking to escape.
Fernandez slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Fernandez is trying to maintain the position but Nogueira is very close to passing his half guard.
Fernandez tries to roll over but Nogueira keeps him under control.

Nogueira is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Fernandez is looking for a sweep. Nogueira is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Fernandez lands a slapping body shot.

Fernandez jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.

Fernandez bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Nogueira gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Nogueira has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Fernandez is working away from the top position though.
Nogueira trying to get back to full guard but Fernandez takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!

Fernandez has hold of Nogueira's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Nogueira manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Nogueira is looking to improve his position but Fernandez isn't that keen on the idea.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Freddy Fernandez dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Fernandez. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Fernandez tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Fernandez has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Nogueira is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Fernandez's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Nogueira manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Fernandez is desperately trying to improve his position but Nogueira has a good base and remains in mount.

Nogueira quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Nogueira but it's paid off an Fernandez is forced to tap! Nice work by Nogueira.
