PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Yadier Molina (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Yadier Molina!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Antonio Rua!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Seu Braga and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rua takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Antonio Rua seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Molina closes the distance and pushes Rua back into the cage.
Rua jumps guard but Molina stands there with Rua around his waist. Rua gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Rua is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Rua tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Molina just stands there and leans against the cage.
Yadier Molina has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Antonio Rua.
Rua tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Molina smiles and moves away.
Molina tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rua paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Rua shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Molina manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Molina is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Molina not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Molina working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rua doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rua manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Rua escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Molina throws a head kick that misses.
The fighters circle momentarily. Rua darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

and Rua counters with a nice double leg into side control. Molina won't be happy with that.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Molina is desperately trying to improve his position but Rua has a good base and remains in mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

and Rua counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Rua shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Molina pinned against the cage. Molina gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Molina tries to clinch but Rua is having none of it.
Rua shoots in for a takedown but Molina shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Rua avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Molina has closed the distance and engaged Rua in a clinch.
Rua tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Molina smiles and moves away.

Molina tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Molina is looking to improve his position but Rua isn't that keen on the idea.

Molina has given up his back here.
Rua controlling the position well here. Molina rolled but Rua kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Rua is looking to control Molina but Molina is wriggling around and keeping busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Molina turns into Rua and is now in his guard.
Molina pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rua is keeping the position for now.
Molina has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Molina stands up over Rua, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Antonio Rua showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



Rua closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Molina did well to prevent Rua getting side control.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Rua lands a nice short elbow.
Molina wants to control but Rua is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Rua looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Molina is fending him off so far but Rua persists. Nope, Molina circles away and we're back to standing.

The fight stays on the outside here - Rua looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Molina swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Rua jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Molina walks away with a smile on his face. Rua gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Molina drives through and clinches with Rua against the cage.

Molina is leaning against Rua and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Molina wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Rua creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Yadier Molina has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Molina makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

And that's the end of the fight!
Antonio Rua comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Rua winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
