PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Daisuke Suzuki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eric Rowler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Suzuki comes to the cage accompanied by Stranglehold by Ted Nugent. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Daisuke Suzuki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Eric Rowler!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rowler misses with a wild body shot.
Rowler misses with a straight right.
Suzuki looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Rowler cracks a nice hook into Suzuki's ribs.
Rowler throws a right and a left that Suzuki avoids nicely.
Suzuki misses with a looping right.
Rowler missing with a left hand there. Suzuki was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Rowler connects with a right hand. Suzuki shakes it off.
A swing and a miss from Rowler.
Suzuki moves out of range of the strikes.
Rowler moves out of range of the body kick.

Suzuki steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Rowler.
Nice takedown defense from Rowler. No joy for Suzuki on that attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rowler closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Rowler lands in his opponent's guard.
Rowler wants to pass the guard but Suzuki is keeping the position.

Rowler fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

It looks like Eric Rowler has been cut.

Suzuki misses with the combination.
Rowler ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Suzuki moves away.
Suzuki tries a low kick but Rowler avoids it.

Rowler shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Suzuki's guard.
Rowler forces his way into half guard.

Suzuki tries to roll over but Rowler keeps him under control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Rowler waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Suzuki.

Rowler closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Rowler lands in his opponent's guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Suzuki has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rowler can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Suzuki is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Suzuki is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Rowler is looking to work some ground and pound but Suzuki has wrist control.

Rowler drops back looking for a leg! Suzuki is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Suzuki manages to kick Rowler off! Rowler jumps back into Suzuki's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Suzuki tries to bum rush Rowler with a series of wild strikes but Rowler uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Rowler throws a body punch but Suzuki moves out of range.
Rowler misses the shot to the body.
Suzuki throws a head kick that misses.
Suzuki stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Suzuki shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rowler as he jumps to the side.

Suzuki drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Suzuki is breathing heavily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rowler gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Daisuke Suzuki will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Eric Rowler's cut.
That's time! Suzuki's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Rowler closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Suzuki on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Rowler is looking for a kimura here.
Suzuki manages to get to full guard.
Suzuki is trying to control the position but Rowler postures up.

Suzuki escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rowler gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Rowler working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Suzuki's head.
Rowler makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Suzuki is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Rowler is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Suzuki wants to control from the top but Rowler keeps moving.

Suzuki trying to control the position from guard on top but Rowler is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Suzuki is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Rowler had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Suzuki defends it easily.

Rowler is trying to maintain the position but Suzuki is very close to passing his half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rowler has a takedown stuffed.
Rowler misses the shot to the body.
Suzuki throws a series of punches but Rowler moves out of range.
Rowler tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Suzuki swivels and escapes.
Rowler avoids a punch combination nicely.
Rowler avoids the head kick by Suzuki.
Suzuki throws a hook but Rowler blocks it.
Suzuki throws a series of punches but Rowler moves out of range.
Suzuki fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Suzuki throws a front kick aimed at Rowler's knee but Rowler avoids it well.

Suzuki dips to his left and cracks Rowler with an uppercut!
Suzuki shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rowler pinned against the cage. Rowler gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Suzuki throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Daisuke Suzuki will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Rowler throws an overhand right that lands on Suzuki's shoulder, as Suzuki tries to avoid the shot.
Suzuki's corner calls for a 1-2. Suzuki obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Suzuki tries a head kick but it misses.
Rowler clobbers Suzuki with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Suzuki scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Rowler throws a body punch but Suzuki moves out of range.

Rowler drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Suzuki tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Suzuki is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Suzuki is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Rowler moves into full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Rowler lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Suzuki!

Rowler looking for a guillotine from mount but Suzuki is having none of it.
Suzuki is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Suzuki is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Suzuki is trying desperately to improve position.
Rowler lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Rowler prevents Suzuki from getting the reversal.
Rowler postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Suzuki looks a forlorn figure.
Rowler throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

Suzuki keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Rowler working for a guillotine from mount but Suzuki is in no mood to give up.
Suzuki is desperately trying to improve his position but Rowler has a good base and remains in mount.

Suzuki takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Suzuki is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Rowler is landing with some decent strikes but Suzuki is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Rowler misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Suzuki is looking to get to half guard.
Rowler landing strikes from the mount and Suzuki is in trouble!
Suzuki sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Rowler looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Suzuki with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Suzuki slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Rowler won't allow Suzuki to sweep him here.
Suzuki looking to control.
Suzuki utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Rowler is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Suzuki is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rowler defends well.
Daisuke Suzuki is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Suzuki looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rowler is one step ahead there.
Eric Rowler has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Rowler thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Rowler tries for a takedown but Suzuki circles away easily

and Suzuki counters with a nice double leg into side control. Rowler won't be happy with that.
Rowler tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Suzuki wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

I would just about give that final round to Eric Rowler.
I think Suzuki has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
