The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sullivan throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Sullivan defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Mughes.
Mughes shoots in for a takedown but Sullivan shows good takedown defense.
Sullivan looks to score with a jab to the body but Mughes is just out of range.

Mughes drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Sullivan manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mughes has Sullivan in his guard.

and Mughes counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Sullivan counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Mughes has his foot on Sullivan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sullivan works his way back into a safe position though.

Sullivan is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Mughes has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Mughes!
Sullivan controls Mughes momentarily but Mughes frees himself.
Sullivan tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Mughes connects with a couple of short punches.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mughes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Sullivan manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mughes manages to get himself to full guard.
