PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Akihiro Mishiwa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Takanori Gomi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Mishiwa might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Hero. Takanori Gomi will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Akihiro Mishiwa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Takanori Gomi!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yukihiro Shimada and Yasuomi Hirokawa.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mishiwa throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
The fight stays on the outside here - Gomi looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Mishiwa tries to land a front kick but Gomi steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Takanori Gomi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gomi is looking to clinch but Mishiwa is avoiding it.
Gomi shoots in for a double leg but Mishiwa sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Mishiwa misses the jab.
Mishiwa pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Gomi shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Mishiwa is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Gomi pulls his head out easily.
Gomi wants to pass the guard but Mishiwa is defending well.

Gomi trying to mount his opponent but Mishiwa defends it.
Gomi thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Mishiwa's head.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mishiwa connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

Gomi shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Gomi was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Gomi goes for an armbar but Mishiwa turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Mishiwa.
Gomi is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Gomi is wriggling around but Mishiwa manages to pass to half guard.
Gomi regains full guard. Nicely done.
Mishiwa is breathing heavily.

Gomi scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Mishiwa shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Gomi has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Mishiwa. Oh but Gomi has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Mishiwa goes limp - he's gone! Gomi jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
