The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Johnson connects with the punch.
Johnson closes this distance looking for a takedown but springfield circles away.
Johnson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Johnson's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

and springfield counters with a nice double leg into side control. Johnson won't be happy with that.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

springfield works to advance to full mount. Johnson defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

You get the feeling that Johnson really doesn't like being in this position too much.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
springfield takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Johnson tries to lock up and control but springfield gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Johnson is desperately trying to improve his position but springfield has a good base and remains in mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
springfield avoids the attempt from Johnson to control.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

butch springfield showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Johnson is landing with some decent strikes but springfield is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
