PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Killa Cali (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jesus Wazher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wazher has chosen Jesus is my Friend as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Killa Cali!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jesus Wazher!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Konstantin Menshow and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wazher shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Cali is trying to defend but Wazher finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Wazher thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Wazher keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Wazher throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Wazher slows the pace down in half guard.

Wazher seems to be working for a kimura but Cali defends the submission attempt.

Cali blocking the ground and pound attempt from Wazher.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wazher thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Wazher looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Wazher is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Cali defends it well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Wazher wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cali keeps working.
Wazher not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Wazher thows a huge punch but Cali dodges it nicely.
Wazher trying to control the action but Cali is working from the bottom.
Cali on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Cali tries to get out of the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Cali ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Cali fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Cali uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Cali lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Wazher circles away quickly and effectively.
Wazher slips a jab from Cali.
Killa Cali seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cali throws a series of punches but Wazher moves out of range.
Wazher blocks a jab.
Wazher shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cali but Cali pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Cali gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Wazher to score an easy takedown into full guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Wazher accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Wazher working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Wazher trying to control the position from guard on top but Cali is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Wazher lands a couple of digs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jesus Wazher will probably get the nod.

Wazher is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Cali defends well.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cali accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Cali missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Cali pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Wazher is keeping the position for now.
Cali trying to control the position from guard on top but Wazher is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cali postures up in Wazher's guard and throws a big left but Wazher blocks it.
Wazher bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cali's guard.
Wazher postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Wazher is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Wazher throws a big right hand that misses.
Cali trying to control the position.
Wazher distracts Cali with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Wazher postures up in Cali's guard and throws a big left but Cali blocks it.
Wazher scoring with punches to the head and body.

Wazher trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Wazher is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Wazher throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Wazher is looking to work some ground and pound but Cali has wrist control.
Wazher is working Cali over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Wazher seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Wazher tries to free his leg and advance position but Cali is retaining full guard.
Wazher is pushing down on Cali's leg trying to pass to half guard. Cali is fighting to maintain full guard but Wazher has managed to sneak the leg through.
Wazher thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Cali's head.

Wazher is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Cali defends it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jesus Wazher showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Cali is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Wazher.

Wazher decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Wazher thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Wazher wants to take a breather but Cali is having none of it.
Cali keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Cali is trying to stand back up but Wazher is controlling him
Wazher slips a nice elbow through Cali's hands, connecting with Cali's forehead.
Wazher looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Cali with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Wazher content to control rather than advance.
Cali is staying active underneath Wazher, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Killa Cali has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Wazher is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Cali is not content to let Wazher control the position.
Wazher is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Wazher trying to control from half guard but Cali is working away.

Wazher is working for a submission of some sort.
Wazher trying to mount his opponent but Cali defends it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Wazher wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cali keeps working.
Cali won't allow Wazher to pass to mount.
Wazher sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Cali defending well though.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Wazher uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Cali.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Wazher's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Wazher duly obliges.


It looks like Killa Cali has been cut.
Cali throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Wazher counters with a straight right hand.
Jesus Wazher is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Cali falls off balance throwing a combination

and Wazher counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jesus Wazher comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Wazher has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
