PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lee Wong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Takanori Gomi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gomi has chosen Roots as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wong blocks a head kick by Gomi.
Gomi fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Wong on the side of the head.

Wong gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Gomi wants a takedown but no success here.
Wong throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Gomi blocks it with crossed arms.
Gomi tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Wong avoiding damage.
Gomi drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Wong gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Lee Wong has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Takanori Gomi.

Gomi has hold of one of Wong's legs. Wong is fighting the takedown attempt but Gomi gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Gomi manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Wong manages to get himself to full guard.
Gomi tries to stand but Wong is controlling from the bottom.

Gomi content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Wong has locked up a guillotine! Wong's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Gomi is holding on here and Wong must be using up a lot of energy. Gomi has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Wong gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
