PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kyle Henderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tyrus Wilson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Henderson kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is aint no rest for the wicked. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kyle Henderson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tyrus Wilson!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Bruno Lombardi and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Henderson or perhaps it was just good defense by Wilson which made him look bad.
Wilson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Henderson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Wilson as he jumps to the side.
Henderson on the wrong end of a kick to the body.

Wilson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Henderson's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Henderson working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Wilson.
Wilson tries to free his leg and advance position but Henderson is retaining full guard.
Henderson keeping moving, preventing Wilson from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Wilson stands and steps away. Henderson gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Wilson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Wilson lands in his opponent's guard.
Henderson being controlled here, momentarily.
Henderson is breathing heavily.

Henderson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Wilson defends it easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wilson trying to control the position from guard on top but Henderson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Wilson wants to stand but Henderson is controlling his posture from full guard.
Wilson tries to free his leg and advance position but Henderson is retaining full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Henderson wants to improve his position but instead Wilson has moved into half guard.
Wilson takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Wilson wants to pass to mount but Henderson is defending the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Wilson shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Wilson tries to stand and escape but Henderson actually recovers to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wilson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Henderson is controlling Wilson's posture.
Wilson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tyrus Wilson dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

so Wilson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Wilson has gone for a leg lock! Henderson slips out almost immediately though and dives into Wilson's guard.

Wilson wriggles free and stands up.
Tyrus Wilson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Henderson misses with a takedown

and Wilson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Henderson's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Wilson wants to pass the guard but Henderson is keeping the position.
Wilson trying to stand up but can't free himself from Henderson's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Wilson wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Henderson's closed guard. He's half up but Henderson has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Henderson pivots and extends the arm, Wilson falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Henderson! Well done that man!
