The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Roy gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Smith to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Smith tries to close the distance and clinch but Roy swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Roy throws a right hand that Smith ducks under and follows up with a left that Smith also avoids with ease.

That was a close round but I would say that John Smith will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Smith looks to land a combination but Roy avoids it well.
Smith throws a leg kick but Roy moved away.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Roy sprawls well. Roy wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Smith gets slowly back to his feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Smith lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Roy circles away quickly and effectively.
Smith avoids a punch combination nicely.
Smith attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.

Smith gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Roy fails to pull the fight into his guard.
John Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bishop Roy.
Roy is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Smith gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Roy is working Smith over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

John Smith overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Smith bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Roy's guard.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Roy throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Roy, as that shot connected.

Smith throws a body kick despite being completely out of range

and Roy counters with a shoot takedown. Smith fights it but they end up in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Roy stands and steps away. Smith gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Roy can do anything to dispel that myth.
Smith is looking to take a break and control but Roy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
