Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Greg Mcferon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Shogun Rua!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Paul Aken and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rua fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Mcferon manages to avoid it.
Mcferon displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Rua.
Rua tries to clinch up but Mcferon circles away and keeps his distance.
Rua is looking to clinch but Mcferon is avoiding it.
Mcferon throws a one two combo.
Mcferon circles away from the clinch attempt.
Rua tries to clinch up.
A jab lands there for Mcferon.
Rua tries to clinch up but Mcferon circles away and keeps his distance.
Rua throws a nice head kick!
Jab, jab by Mcferon - just one landing.
Rua uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Mcferon.
Rua is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Mcferon throws a right hand that Rua ducks under and follows up with a left that Rua also avoids with ease.

The fight stays on the outside here - Rua looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Rua tries to clinch but Mcferon is having none of it.
Rua shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mcferon defends it nicely.
Rua tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Rua takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Mcferon stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Rua wants to clinch.
Rua fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Mcferon closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Rua is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Mcferon has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Rua looks gassed!
Rua stops Mcferon from passing to mount.
Mcferon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rua keeps working.
Rua is pushing Mcferon's head away, looking to escape. Mcferon manages to hold on to the position though.

Mcferon takes a little break here. Rua wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Mcferon is looking to take a break and control but Rua is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Rua fails with the takedown
and Mcferon counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Greg Mcferon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shogun Rua.
Mcferon throws a leg kick but Rua sees it coming and checks it nicely.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Rua wants to clinch but Mcferon slips to the side

and Mcferon counters by clinching up.
Mcferon slows down the pace here.

Mcferon lands a hook to the side of the head.
A frustrated look appears on Mcferon's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Rua tries to land a knee to the head but Mcferon blocks with his arms.

Rua is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Mcferon is defending well for now.
Rua keeps control of Mcferon as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Mcferon lands a shoulder strike.
Rua misses with a knee to the head.
Rua fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mcferon dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

and Mcferon counters with a single leg into guard. Rua didn't expect that.
Mcferon trying to control but Rua is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mcferon is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Mcferon loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Rua is breathing heavily.

Rua preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Rua working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Mcferon.
Mcferon is looking to work some ground and pound but Rua has wrist control.
Rua wants to get back to his feet but Mcferon is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Mcferon darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

Mcferon feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Rua avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Mcferon is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Mcferon is looking to work some ground and pound but Rua has wrist control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mcferon lands with a shot to the body.
Mcferon lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Mcferon scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Mcferon ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Rua takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Jab, jab by Mcferon - just one landing.
Mcferon lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Mcferon goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rua walks into a straight right hand from Mcferon.
Mcferon connects with a good right hand that stumbles Rua. Rua circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Rua wants to clinch
and Mcferon counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Mcferon scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mcferon scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Mcferon scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Rua doesn't seem bothered though.

Mcferon forces Rua back against the cage and clinches.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mcferon tries to break the clinch but Rua is controlling the position.

Mcferon pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Mcferon cracks Rua with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Mcferon shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Rua is trying to defend but Mcferon finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Rua is trying to stand up here but Mcferon is controlling him well.

Mcferon seems to be working for a kimura but Rua defends the submission attempt.
Mcferon missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Mcferon looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Mcferon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rua keeps working.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Mcferon counters with a shoot takedown. Rua fights it but they end up in guard.
Mcferon trying to control the position from guard on top but Rua is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rua wants to stand and escape but Mcferon is having none of it.

Greg Mcferon is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Rua wants to stand but Mcferon is controlling the position.
Mcferon wants to pass the guard but Rua is keeping the position.

Mcferon has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Shogun Rua has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Rua is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Well Mcferon has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
