Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alez Calypse (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Widaca (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Calypse comes to the cage accompanied by Prodigy - Spitfire. This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Calypse gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Widaca tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Calypse gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Calypse wants to pass the guard but Widaca is defending well.

Calypse is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Widaca is just riding it out for now. Calypse eventually gives up the hold.

Widaca holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Calypse tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Calypse throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Calypse jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Widaca is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Widaca and Calypse has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Calypse passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Widaca!

Calypse goes for an armbar but Widaca turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Widaca.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Calypse has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Widaca can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Calypse swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Widaca misses with a few strikes there.

Calypse shoots for a double leg takedown but Widaca sprawls well. He's pushed Calypse's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Calypse tries to score a power double leg takedown but Widaca sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Calypse somewhat.
Widaca throws a wild body kick that Calypse sees coming a mile off.
Calypse closes the distance and clinches up with Widaca, looking for a takedown. Calypse pushes Widaca against the cage but Widaca circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Widaca stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Widaca wants it to stay on the feet.
Widaca lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Calypse drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Calypse shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Widaca sprawls well. Widaca wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Calypse gets slowly back to his feet.

John Widaca is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Widaca lunges at Calypse with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Calypse's hand.
Calypse uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Widaca.
Calypse shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Widaca works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Widaca lands with a nice combination. Calypse backs away looking to recover.
Widaca cracks Calypse with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Calypse drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Calypse jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Calypse bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Widaca has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Calypse postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Widaca is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Calypse, into his guard.
Calypse has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Widaca got a little sloppy there for a moment and Calypse has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Widaca has managed to get both his arms back between Calypse's legs - danger averted.

Calypse isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Widaca stacks Calypse on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Widaca!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
