PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Marcus Hayes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Victor Hawk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hayes comes to the cage accompanied by I gotta feeling. Victor Hawk struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 171.6lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Marcus Hayes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Victor Hawk!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Skip Squint and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hayes moves into the clinch successfully.
Hayes displaying some good clinch control by pressing Hawk up against the cage.
Hawk wants to break free but Hayes has control.

Hayes breaks from the clinch.
Hawk misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Hawk tries to bum rush Hayes with a series of wild strikes but Hayes uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Hawk avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Hawk misses with a looping left.
Hawk takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Hayes looks to land a combination but Hawk avoids it well.
Hawk throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Hayes is looking to clinch but Hawk is avoiding it.
Hawk just misses with a punch to the body.
Hayes avoids a punch combination nicely.
Victor Hawk seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hayes looks to land a right hand but Hawk moved out of range.

Hayes wants to clinch up but Hawk keeps it at a distance.
Hayes fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hawk avoids it really well and circles away.
Hawk goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Hayes is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Hawk keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hayes is stalling here. Hawk is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Hayes seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Hawk has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hayes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Hayes trying to control the position from guard on top but Hawk is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Hawk lands a slapping body shot.
Hayes is trying hard to land a takedown here. Hawk sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Hayes dives in and grabs Hawk's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hawk pushes down on Hayes's head and hops out.

No joy there for Hayes, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

That was a close round but I would say that Marcus Hayes will probably get the nod.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hayes is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

and Hayes takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

That was a close second round but I would say that Marcus Hayes will probably get the nod.

Hayes throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Hawk sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Hawk misses with a jab, cross combination.
A big right from Hawk misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hayes with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Hawk to score with a decent uppercut.
Hayes fails with the takedown.
Hawk throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Some wild striking there from Hawk.
Hawk lands with a big left! Hayes is wobbled badly! Hawk comes in with a flurry of punches and drops Hayes to the floor. The ref jumps in to save him from unneccessary punishment.
