PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Amali Yeboah (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ju Young Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Amali Yeboah!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ju Young Kim!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Wagner Zegers and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kim avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Yeboah keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Kim fails in his attempt to clinch.

Kim clinches up against the cage.
Kim gets underhooks to prevent Yeboah's takedown attempt.

Kim pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Kim bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Kim wants to stand but Yeboah has him controlled and pulls him back into his guard.
Kim showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Kim wants to pass the guard but Yeboah is keeping the position.

Yeboah bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kim's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kim is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Kim has control of Yeboah's left arm, preventing Yeboah from doing any damage.
Yeboah stands and throws Kim's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Yeboah is trying to get an arm triangle but Kim is defending well.
Kim manages to get back to half guard.
Yeboah missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Kim is looking to escape.
Kim works his way to full guard. Good work.
Yeboah slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Kim looking for a sweep. Not yet Kim, not yet.
Kim controls Yeboah momentarily but Yeboah frees himself.
Kim looks gassed!

Yeboah wants to control from the top but Kim keeps moving.
Kim is looking to stand up but Yeboah isn't so interested in that idea.
Kim pulls Yeboah in close to prevent any damage.
Yeboah's corner is telling him to maintain position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Yeboah wants to clinch
enabling Kim to counter with a crisp jab.
Kim fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Nice takedown defense from Yeboah. No joy for Kim on that attempt.
Amali Yeboah has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ju Young Kim.
Yeboah will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Kim looks to land a body kick but Yeboah moved away.

and Kim counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Kim closes the distance and pushes Yeboah back into the cage.
Kim tries to pull guard but Yeboah won't allow it.

Ju Young Kim dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Kim lands with a hook. Yeboah tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Amali Yeboah seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Yeboah clinches.

Yeboah manages to pull guard.
Kim trying to control but Yeboah is working from the bottom.
Yeboah controls Kim momentarily but Kim frees himself.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Kim darts in trying to clinch

and Yeboah counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Yeboah.

Kim is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Kim escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Yeboah gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Yeboah is pushing down on Kim's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kim is fighting to maintain full guard but Yeboah has managed to sneak the leg through.

Kim tries to roll over but Yeboah keeps him under control.

Yeboah is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Kim sees it coming and defends easily.
Kim wants to get back to his feet.
Yeboah trying to control the action but Kim is working from the bottom.
Yeboah moves into side control, avoiding the strikes from Kim.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kim is looking to reverse the position.

Yeboah decides to stand back up.

Kim shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Kim really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Yeboah. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Yeboah is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Yeboah is working to get back to half guard.
Kim is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Kim tries to control but Yeboah wriggling away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kim breaks from Yeboah's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Yeboah in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Kim trying to control but he's not successful this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Amali Yeboah dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Yeboah.
Kim tries to score a power double leg takedown but Yeboah sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kim somewhat.
Yeboah chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Kim can pounce on him.

Yeboah changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kim looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Kim looking for a sweep but Yeboah has passed into full mount! Oh no!

Yeboah is going olschool here, as he tries to force Kim to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Kim shrugs it off.
Kim tries to hold on but Yeboah pushes him away.

Yeboah won't let Kim get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kim manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Yeboah thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kim's head.
Kim is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Kim trying to control from the bottom.
Kim regains full guard. Nicely done.
Yeboah trying to control but Kim is working from the bottom.
Yeboah pushes down on Kim's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Yeboah seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Yeboah is trying to control the action in half guard but Kim is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Yeboah missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Kim wants to get back to full guard.
Kim tries to kick Yeboah off but Yeboah keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Kim is looking for a sweep. Yeboah is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Yeboah seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kim does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Kim takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Kim shoots in and bounces Yeboah off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Yeboah is trying to control the position but Kim postures up.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Yeboah is on top in guard.
Kim keeping moving, preventing Yeboah from controlling successfully.
Yeboah sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Kim's guard.

Kim wants to improve his position but Yeboah is controlling well.
Yeboah seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Kim desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Yeboah tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kim knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Amali Yeboah.
I think Yeboah has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
