PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between JJ Pajis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lee Kerr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pajis comes into the arena with Prodigy - Warrior's Dance blaring out of the sound system. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, JJ Pajis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lee Kerr!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Anthony Taglia and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kerr looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Pajis is fending him off so far but Kerr persists. Nope, Pajis circles away and we're back to standing.
Pajis blocks a head kick by Kerr.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Kerr is defended easily by Pajis.

Kerr closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Kerr controls the position.
Pajis is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Kerr has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Kerr lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Kerr grinds an elbow into Pajis's temple.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Kerr working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Pajis is trying to escape the position but Kerr is controlling the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kerr decides to stand up, so the ref orders Pajis to his feet.
Lee Kerr seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kerr throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Kerr fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
JJ Pajis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lee Kerr.
Pajis shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kerr as he avoids it easily.
Kerr pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Kerr avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Pajis tries to clinch but Kerr moves out of range.
Kerr throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Kerr moves into the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pajis pressing his opponent against the cage.
Kerr has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Pajis avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Pajis slows down the pace here.
Kerr wants to break the clinch but can't.
Kerr fails to pull guard.

Kerr has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Pajis regains guard immediately.
Kerr won't allow Pajis to get back to his feet.
Pajis trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Kerr is looking to advance position but Pajis has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kerr tries to lock up and control but Pajis gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Kerr working to try and regain half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Pajis controlling the pace for now.
Kerr blocking the ground and pound.
Kerr keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Kerr tries to hold on but Pajis postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lee Kerr dominated that round.
That's time! Pajis's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Kerr lands a right hook to the body.
Kerr throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Kerr has his takedown stuffed

and Pajis counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Pajis.
Pajis lands an elbow just above Kerr 's eye.
Kerr is trying to force a seperation but Pajis has the dominant position.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Kerr wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Kerr takes an elbow to the forehead.
Kerr tries to pull guard but Pajis won't allow it.
Pajis is trying to maintain a safe position but Kerr gets an underhook and turns Pajis into the cage.
Kerr is pushing Pajis up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Pajis is trying to stall.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kerr dodges an elbow strike from Pajis.
Pajis looking to slow down the pace here.

Kerr escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Kerr closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Kerr just content to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pajis avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Kerr.
Pajis is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Kerr is controlling him well.
Pajis dodges the ground and pound from Kerr.

Kerr tries for a kimura but Pajis is defending well.
Kerr trying to control the position but Pajis is working away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kerr scoring with punches and elbows.
Kerr takes a little break here. Pajis wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Kerr decides to stand back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kerr with a poor takedown

and Pajis decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kerr's guard.
JJ Pajis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lee Kerr.
Pajis throwing strikes from guard but Kerr blocks nicely.

Kerr pushes Pajis off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

and Pajis counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kerr won't be happy with that.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kerr sneaks back into half guard.
Pajis is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that JJ Pajis will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Kerr rushes Pajis and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Kerr avoids a wild elbow strike from Pajis.
Pajis is trying to maintain a safe position but Kerr gets an underhook and turns Pajis into the cage.
Pajis misses with an elbow over the top.
Pajis throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Kerr blocks it with crossed arms.
Pajis trying to control the position but instead, Kerr has worked for underhooks and has pushed Pajis into the cage.
Pajis manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Kerr breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pajis fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kerr avoids it really well and circles away.

Kerr shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kerr showed some decent athleticism there.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kerr is trying to control. Pajis wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Lee Kerr has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kerr is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Kerr seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Pajis does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kerr with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Kerr working over Pajis with some ground and pound. Pajis looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kerr seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Kerr wants to pass the guard but Pajis is defending well.

Kerr wants to work for an arm triangle but Pajis is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kerr is stalling here. Pajis is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Kerr seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Pajis has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Kerr gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Kerr looking for submissions off his back.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Pajis stands up from half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Lee Kerr comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kerr has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
