Penn kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Come Down. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Luis Engracia and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Obina pinned against the cage. Obina gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Obina keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Obina lands a body shot.
Penn shoots in but Obina avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for BJ Penn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Obina stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Obina wants it to stay on the feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Obina pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Penn fails with a takedown attempt.
Penn shoots in for a takedown but Obina shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Penn steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Obina.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Penn takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.


It looks like BJ Penn has been cut.
Obina bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Penn's head.
Obina scores with a punch to the head.
Obina looks to land a left hand but Penn moved out of range nicely.
Obina misses with a hook.
Penn moves out of range as Obina strikes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Obina misses with a straight right.
Penn steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Obina.
Obina throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Penn stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Penn is breathing heavily.
Penn misses with a takedown attempt - Obina sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Penn shoots in looking for a takedown. Obina tries to sprawl out of it but Penn keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Obina manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Obina misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Obina throws the left hand but Penn avoids the punch easily.
Obina misses with a wild body shot.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Penn. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
Obina scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Obina throws an overhand right that lands on Penn's shoulder, as Penn tries to avoid the shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Barack Obina dominated that round.
The cut man is working on BJ Penn's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Obina throws the left hand but Penn avoids the punch easily.

Penn shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Obina but Obina pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Penn closes the distance and clinches up with Obina, looking for a takedown. Penn pushes Obina against the cage but Obina circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Obina might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Obina scores with a nice head shot.
Obina throws a body punch but Penn moves out of range.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Obina misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Penn shoots for a takedown but Obina saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for BJ Penn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Penn moves in looking to clinch but Obina pushes him off.
Penn slips a jab from Obina.
Nice defenses there by Penn.
Nice uppercut there from Obina.


BJ Penn's cut is getting worse.
