PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ron Bean (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ash Larson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bean's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Raising Hell. Larson has chosen Let the Bodies Hit the Floor as his entrance music. Ash Larson is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ron Bean!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ash Larson!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Dmitry Maklakov and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bean shoots for a takedown but Larson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Ron Bean seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bean wants to slow Larson down by chopping away at his legs.
A low kick from Larson is predictable there
and Bean counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Bean fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Larson tries to clinch up but Bean circles away and keeps his distance.
Larson doesn't succeed with the takedown
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Bean misses with a straight right.

Larson shoots and misses
and Bean counters with a nice uppercut.


It looks like Ash Larson has been cut.
Bean connects with a looping right hand.
A jab lands there for Bean.
Bean shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Larson sprawls well. Larson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Bean gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ron Bean. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Bean closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Larson is looking to escape.

Bean seems to be looking for submissions.
Larson regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Bean.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bean won't allow Larson to get back to his feet.

Bean drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Larson dives on top into guard.
Bean doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Larson wants to get up but he can't break Bean's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Bean is looking to sweep but instead, Larson has passed into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Larson prevents Bean from improving his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Bean checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Bean misses with a double jab.
Bean throws a right hand that Larson ducks under and follows up with a left that Larson also avoids with ease.
Ash Larson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Bean throws a series of punches but Larson avoids them all with ease.
Bean displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Larson.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bean lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Larson circles away quickly and effectively.

A lazy left from Bean finds it's target.
Larson displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Bean throws out the jab.

Bean is working hard here to advance position.
Bean is trying to maintain the position but Larson is very close to passing his half guard.
Bean is controlling Larson's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Bean looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Bean is looking for a sweep. Larson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Larson slips a jab from Bean.
Bean pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bean misses with a takedown attempt

and Larson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Bean's guard.
Bean bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Larson's guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Larson wants to stand up but Bean is controlling him.
Larson is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Bean content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Larson keeping moving, preventing Bean from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ash Larson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Bean throws an overhand right that lands on Larson's shoulder, as Larson tries to avoid the shot.

Larson has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Larson there as he acknowledges the shot.
Bean is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Larson uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Bean.

and Larson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Larson shoots in and bounces Bean off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Larson stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Larson takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Bean misses with a leg kick.
Bean swings and misses with a shot to the body

and Larson counters with a single leg into guard. Bean didn't expect that.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ash Larson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Larson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
