PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ramses Bradshaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phal Um (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Ramses Bradshaw has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ramses Bradshaw!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Phal Um!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Robert Douchet and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bradshaw tries a low kick but Um avoids it.

Um feints and as Bradshaw raises his hands in defense, Um changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Bradshaw keeping moving, preventing Um from controlling successfully.
Bradshaw utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Bradshaw keeping full guard, as Um tries to pass.
Um distracts Bradshaw with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Um landing with the ground and pound.
Bradshaw utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Bradshaw is looking to stand up but Um isn't so interested in that idea.
Um trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Um looking to sit in guard and control but Bradshaw gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Bradshaw tries to free his leg and advance position but Um is retaining full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Um wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Um has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Um not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Bradshaw got a little sloppy there for a moment and Um has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bradshaw has managed to get both his arms back between Um's legs - danger averted.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Um wants to clinch.
Bradshaw closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Um slips under a jab.

Donk. Bradshaw catches Um right on the button with a cross.

Um throws a combination that misses
and Bradshaw counters with a stiff right hand.

Bradshaw lands a with a good body shot.
Um takes a shot to the body in his stride.
A slapping leg kick lands for Bradshaw.
Bradshaw ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Um moves away.
Bradshaw connects with a good right hand that stumbles Um. Um circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Bradshaw misses with a double jab
and Um counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Bradshaw.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ramses Bradshaw dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Um closes the distance and clinches.

Bradshaw escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ramses Bradshaw seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Um blocks a low kick nicely.

and Um counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Bradshaw wants to get back to his feet.

Um passes the guard and advances to mount!
Um lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Um pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Um trying to control but Bradshaw is having none of it.

Um misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Bradshaw is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Um throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Bradshaw because Um loaded up on that one.
Um tries to control but Bradshaw wriggling away.
Bradshaw avoids a series of strikes thrown by Um.
Bradshaw taking shots to the head.
Bradshaw is squirming around, avoiding Um's attempts to control the action.
Bradshaw is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Bradshaw is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Um in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Um looking to control but Bradshaw is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Um scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Bradshaw?

Phal Um showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Bradshaw swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Um takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Bradshaw is not content to let Um control the position.
Um lands some shots froms side control.
Um sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Bradshaw is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Bradshaw sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Bradshaw is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Um throwing shots but Bradshaw is blocking nicely.

Um is nestled in close to Bradshaw, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Um thows a huge punch but Bradshaw dodges it nicely.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Um counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Um.
Um tries to score a body lock takedown but Bradshaw shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Bradshaw is trying to force a seperation but Um has the dominant position.
Um has Bradshaw pressed against the cage, preventing Bradshaw from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Bradshaw wants to break free but Um has control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Phal Um comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Um has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
