The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sackett is looking to clinch but Smith is avoiding it.

Sackett takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Sackett throws a lazy right hand but Smith sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Smith tries to clinch there but Sackett circles away.
Smith throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Sackett misses with a jab, cross combination.

Sackett tries to keep at a distance but Smith has taken the fight into the clinch.
Smith wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Sackett has him pressed against the cage.
Still in the clinch, Sackett scores with a nice short uppercut.
Smith wants to break the clinch but can't.
The referee calls for Sackett to work.

Smith escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Sackett scores with a body shot.
Smith scores with a decent looking hook.

Sackett has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

and Smith counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Sackett throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Smith sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Sackett shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Smith napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Smith regains half guard, as Sackett was trying to land strikes.
Smith looks like he's trying to stand up.
Sackett thows a huge punch but Smith dodges it nicely.
Smith wants to get back to his feet.
Smith scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Sackett manages to mount him!
Smith is breathing heavily.
Smith is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Sackett landing strikes from the mount.

Sackett tries to control but Smith wriggling away.
Smith tries to buck Sackett off but he can't manage it.
Sackett lands a big shot there that rocks Smith but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

BOOM! Sackett connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Sackett lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Smith's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Sackett closes this distance looking for a takedown but Smith circles away.
Smith throws a looping overhand right but Sackett ducks down to avoid it.

Smith ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Sackett moves away.
Sackett tries to clinch but Smith moves out of range.

Smith breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Peter Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sackett blocks a jab.
Sackett needs to keep his hands up - Smith had a free shot at his head there.

Sackett closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Smith is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Sackett has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Sackett lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Smith down.

The referee asks Sackett politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Sackett prefers to stall for the moment though.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Smith loads up on a big right hand but Sackett slips the punch.
Peter Smith is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Sackett takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Sackett moves away from the strike by Smith.
Smith scores with a nice strike.
Sackett misses with a straight right.
Sackett looks for a takedown but Smith sprawls well.
Smith tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Sackett lands with a nice body punch.

Smith lands with an uppercut that bounces Sackett off the cage and back into rage.
Smith looks to score with a jab to the body but Sackett is just out of range.
Yance Sackett is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

so Sackett counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Smith is looking to stand up but Sackett isn't so interested in that idea.

Sackett drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Sackett jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Peter Smith has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Yance Sackett.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sackett, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
