The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn misses with a jab, cross combination.
Penn lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Penn cracks the inside of Ludwig's front leg.
Penn throws a sloppy head kick and Ludwig moves out of range easily.

Ludwig has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Penn uses from the top position.

Ludwig dives in and grabs Penn's left leg, looking for a takedown. Penn pushes down on Ludwig's head and hops out.
Penn feints and then cracks Ludwig's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Ludwig down.
Penn throws a right hand that Ludwig ducks under and follows up with a left that Ludwig also avoids with ease.

Penn tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Good leg kick by Penn there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

BOOM! Ludwig connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Ludwig has hold of Penn's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Penn manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Ludwig has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Penn is squirming around, avoiding Ludwig's attempts to control the action.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Penn is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
You get the feeling that Penn really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Ludwig wants to finish this one by submission but Penn is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Ludwig.

Penn's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Ludwig cracks Penn with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
