PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kenny Carrillio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sami Holmen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Sami Holmen was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kenny Carrillio!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sami Holmen!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Ren Mimura and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carrillio moves in looking to clinch but Holmen pushes him off.
Holmen throws a low kick but it's checked well by Carrillio.

Holmen shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Carrillio manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Holmen looking to pass the guard.
Holmen wants to control from the top but Carrillio keeps moving.

Holmen stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Carrillio avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Holmen tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Holmen shoots in for a takedown but Carrillio shows good takedown defense.
Holmen shoots in but no luck this time.
Carrillio gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Holmen counters with a single leg into guard. Carrillio didn't expect that.

Holmen with a flurry of punches that miss.
Holmen throws and elbow that misses. Carrillio uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Holmen's guard. Nice move by Carrillio!

Holmen has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Carrillio can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Holmen looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Carrillio passes into side control.
Carrillio is breathing heavily.
Holmen struggling a bit here.
A lull in the action here.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Carrillio decides to stand back up. Carrillio steps back and let's Holmen get back to his feet.
Holmen avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Carrillio.
Holmen can't do much from the bottom here.
Holmen is trying to escape the position but Carrillio is controlling the position.

Holmen is looking to regain half guard here but Carrillio keeps moving and retains side control.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Holmen gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Carrillio counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Kenny Carrillio has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sami Holmen.
Holmen has control of Carrillio's left arm, preventing Carrillio from doing any damage.

Carrillio seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Holmen is looking for a sweep. Carrillio is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Holmen has a hand on Carrillio's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Carrillio takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Carrillio's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Holmen circles away from the clinch attempt.

Holmen feints and as Carrillio raises his hands in defense, Holmen changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Carrillio has control of Holmen's left arm, preventing Holmen from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Holmen trying to control but Carrillio is working from the bottom.
Holmen wants to pass the guard but Carrillio is keeping the position.
Holmen wants to control from the top but Carrillio keeps moving.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Holmen stops Carrillio from standing up.

Holmen postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Carrillio is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Holmen, into his guard.

Holmen isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Carrillio stacks Holmen on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Carrillio!
Holmen tries to improve position but can't.
Carrillio gets to mount! Holmen was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Carrillio avoids the attempt from Holmen to control.
Carrillio controlling from mount.
Holmen is looking to get to half guard.

Holmen is wriggling around trying to escape.

Carrillio trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Carrillio takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Holmen is desperately trying to improve his position but Carrillio has a good base and remains in mount.
Holmen wants to hold on but Carrillio pushes him away.
Carrillio controlling from the full mount.
Carrillio trying to control but he's not successful this time.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Holmen is trying to escape the mount.
Holmen wants to hold on but Carrillio pushes him away.
Holmen tries to reverse the position but Carrillio maintains control.
Carrillio controlling from the full mount.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kenny Carrillio dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Holmen doesn't manage to clinch there - Carrillio circles away.
Carrillio wants to clinch but Holmen slips to the side

and Holmen counters with a single leg into guard. Carrillio didn't expect that.

Carrillio uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Holmen turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Carrillio putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Holmen in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.

Carrillio goes for a takedown attempt but Holmen pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Holmen wants to stand and escape but instead Carrillio has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Holmen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Carrillio doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Carrillio manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Holmen is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Carrillio is aware though and is defending well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carrillio is thwarting Holmen's attempts to control the position.
Holmen is looking to improve his position.
Holmen is trying to control but can't.
Holmen keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Holmen scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Carrillio manages to mount him!
Kenny Carrillio is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Holmen is squirming around, avoiding Carrillio's attempts to control the action.
Holmen wants to hold on but Carrillio pushes him away.

Sami Holmen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Sami Holmen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Carrillio has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
