Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Blair Howatt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Svenn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Svenn comes into a darkened arena with his song building. We Taking Over kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tom Svenn!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Leandro Rodrigues and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Howatt, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Howatt throws a head kick that misses.
Howatt lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.


It looks like Tom Svenn has been cut.

Svenn drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Svenn tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Howatt bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Svenn's head backwards.
Howatt lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Svenn closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Svenn missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Howatt avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Svenn would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Svenn is pushing down on Howatt's leg trying to pass to half guard. Howatt is fighting to maintain full guard but Svenn has managed to sneak the leg through.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Svenn shoots in and bounces Howatt off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Howatt working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Svenn doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Svenn manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Svenn wants to pass the guard but Howatt is keeping the position.

Svenn looking to sit in guard and control but Howatt gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Svenn is on top in guard.
Svenn is looking to advance position but Howatt has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Howatt quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Svenn has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Howatt celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
