PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Will Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Denny Hamton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Will Brown!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Denny Hamton!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Eliza Hachem and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hamton fails with the takedown.
Brown leaves Hamton with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Hamton tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Brown swivels and escapes.
Will Brown has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Denny Hamton.
Brown stuffs the takedown attempt from Hamton. Hamton gets slowly back to his feet.
Hamton looks for a takedown but Brown sprawls well.

Brown shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Brown seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Hamton wants to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brown takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Brown postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Hamton to stand up.

Brown bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Brown decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Denny Hamton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Brown throws a body punch but Hamton moves out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Brown moves out of range of the body kick.

Brown drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Brown is breathing heavily.

Brown stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Brown fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hamton sprawls well initially but Brown persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Hamton wants to get back to his feet.
Hamton trying to control but Brown postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brown is controlling the pace.
Hamton blocking the ground and pound attempt from Brown.

Hamton is refusing to be controlled, as Brown sits in half guard.
Hamton trying to control from the bottom.
Brown is keen to just control but Hamton is a slippery customer.
Hamton tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Brown manages to move to mount!
Hamton is looking to get to half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hamton tries to lock up and control but Brown gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Hamton is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
You get the feeling that Hamton really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Brown is working for a guillotine from mount but Hamton frees his head quite easily.
Hamton is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Hamton wants to control but Brown is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Will Brown dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Hamton doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Brown counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hamton won't be happy with that.
Hamton pushes Brown away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Brown gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Brown connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Hamton some visible discomfort.
Brown remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Check out the look on Brown's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Hamton is trying to get back to his feet.
Hamton takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hamton is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Hamton tries to bench press Brown off him but Brown keeps the position.
Brown just content to control the position.
Hamton is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Brown is controlling him well.

Brown decides to stand back up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Brown blocks a head kick by Hamton.

so Brown counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Brown drops back looking for a leg! Hamton is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hamton manages to kick Brown off! Brown jumps back into Hamton's guard.
Brown postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Brown with a flurry of punches that miss.
Brown won't allow Hamton to get back to his feet.

Brown trying to control the position from guard on top but Hamton is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hamton has a closed guard, preventing Brown from standing up.
Brown with a flurry of punches that miss.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Hamton tries to clinch but Brown moves away

and Brown counters with a takedown into side control.
Hamton is looking for a sweep.
Brown has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Hamton wants to get back to his feet.
Hamton is not content to let Brown control the position.

Hamton can't do much from the bottom here.
Hamton is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
A lull in the action here as Brown stalls from top position.
Hamton can't do much from the bottom here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Hamton looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Brown throws a wild body kick that Hamton sees coming a mile off.
Hamton sizes up Brown with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Hamton fails with a takedown attempt.
Brown misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Hamton tries to clinch there but Brown circles away.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Brown counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Will Brown has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Denny Hamton.
Hamton is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Brown pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Brown's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Brown feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Brown gets to his feet. Hamton looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Brown has hold of one of Hamton's legs. Hamton is fighting the takedown attempt but Brown gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Brown stays in close to Hamton's body and controls the position.

Brown gets to his feet. Hamton looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

and Brown decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Hamton's guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Brown drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Brown jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Brown is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hamton can do to turn this around?

Brown decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Brown closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Well Brown has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
