PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rampage Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shane Probert (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Probert has chosen lunatic fringe as his entrance music. The key to victory for Rampage Penn has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rampage Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Shane Probert!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Columbo Gatti and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn tries to work over Probert's front leg with a kick but Probert checks it.
Probert checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Penn misses with a jab, cross combination.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Probert checks a leg kick.
A bone on bone clash there as Probert blocks the leg kick.
Some wild striking there from Penn.
Probert tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Penn throws a series of punches but Probert moves out of range.
Penn throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Probert.
Penn tried to score with a low kick but Probert checks it.
Penn wants to land a leg kick but Probert is out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Penn tries a low kick but Probert avoids it.
Probert scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Probert slips a jab and a cross from Penn.
Penn misses with the combination.
Penn swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Probert counters with an outside leg kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Probert gets the takedown into side control.

Probert wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Penn, who protects the arm well.
Penn defending against the ground and pound.
Probert scores with punches from side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

It looks like Rampage Penn has been cut.
Probert throws an elbow but Penn slips to the side and avoids it well.
Penn is trying to get back to his feet.

Probert working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Penn is trying to improve his position.
Probert in side control lands a decent elbow.
Probert postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Probert goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Penn rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Probert's guard! Nice work there by Penn!
Penn pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Probert is keeping the position for now.

Penn is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Probert looking for a sweep. Not yet Probert, not yet.
Probert trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Probert striking off his back but it's not causing Penn any problems.
Penn wants to control from the top but Probert keeps moving.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Penn misses with a combination

and Probert counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Probert looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Penn with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Probert has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Penn can't escape the position.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Probert cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Penn is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Probert landing strikes from the mount and Penn is in trouble!
Probert lands a nice shot to the head.


Penn is rocked!


Rampage Penn's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Probert fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Oh Penn is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!


Jeez, Rampage Penn's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Rampage Penn's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Shane Probert!
