PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Luc Deveraux (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricky Ortiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ricky Ortiz told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Leandro Rodrigues and Luis Engracia.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Deveraux throws a combination. Ortiz tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Ortiz misses with a takedown attempt - Deveraux sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Ortiz is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Deveraux's half guard.

Ortiz decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Ortiz shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Ortiz passes the guard and advances to mount!

Ortiz has control of Deveraux's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Deveraux regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ortiz get's back to his feet.

Deveraux waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Ortiz.

Ortiz scores a takedown into full mount!

Ortiz stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Ortiz shoots in for a takedown but Deveraux shows good takedown defense.
Horrible takedown by Ortiz or perhaps it was just good defense by Deveraux which made him look bad.
Luc Deveraux has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ricky Ortiz.
Deveraux throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Ortiz fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Ortiz tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Deveraux swivels and escapes.
Deveraux throws a looping overhand right but Ortiz ducks down to avoid it.
Deveraux scores with the left hand. Ortiz knows he should have avoided that one.
Ortiz shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Deveraux pinned against the cage. Deveraux gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Ortiz shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Deveraux but Deveraux pushes him off and we're back to square one.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ortiz avoids a punch combination nicely.
Luc Deveraux is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Deveraux misses with a straight right.
No joy there for Deveraux, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Ortiz moves away from the strike by Deveraux.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Ortiz shoots in for a takedown but Deveraux shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Ortiz bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Ortiz wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Deveraux, who protects the arm well.
Ortiz moves into full mount!

Ortiz has hold of Deveraux's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Deveraux manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Ortiz is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Deveraux is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Deveraux flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Ortiz anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Deveraux and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Ortiz slips an arm under Deveraux chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Ortiz has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Ortiz is squeezing on Deveraux like an anaconda would it's prey. Deveraux fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!
