PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Oleg Vasiliev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eddie Valasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vasiliev comes to the cage accompanied by Hate me now. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Oleg Vasiliev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Eddie Valasquez!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Elvis Blanc and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vasiliev gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Valasquez.


It looks like Oleg Vasiliev has been cut.

Vasiliev shoots in and bounces Valasquez off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Vasiliev wants to pass the guard but Valasquez is keeping the position.
Valasquez is pulling down on Vasiliev's head to control his posture.

Vasiliev stands and throws Valasquez's legs to the side, diving into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Vasiliev tries to score with some ground and pound. Valasquez controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Vasiliev wants to control but Valasquez is keeping him busy.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Valasquez can do anything to dispel that myth.
Valasquez takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Vasiliev tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Vasiliev has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Valasquez is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Vasiliev asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Vasiliev is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Valasquez is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Valasquez stops Vasiliev from passing to mount.
Vasiliev throws an elbow but Valasquez slips to the side and avoids it well.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Valasquez throws a right and a left that Vasiliev avoids nicely.
Oleg Vasiliev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nice sprawl there from Valasquez as Vasiliev shoots in.

Valasquez defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Vasiliev.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
A left and a right from Valasquez both land. Nice combination.
Valasquez misses with an uppercut.
Valasquez displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Vasiliev.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Oleg Vasiliev. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Valasquez lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Vasiliev circles away quickly and effectively.

Vasiliev closes the distance and clinches up with Valasquez, looking for a takedown. Vasiliev pushes Valasquez against the cage but Valasquez circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Valasquez rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Vasiliev moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Valasquez is breathing heavily.

Valasquez uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Vasiliev.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eddie Valasquez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

and Valasquez counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Vasiliev shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Valasquez but Valasquez pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Vasiliev throws an overhand right that lands on Valasquez's shoulder, as Valasquez tries to avoid the shot.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Valasquez misses with a two punch combination.
Valasquez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Vasiliev is trying hard to land a takedown here. Valasquez sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Vasiliev looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Vasiliev moves out of range of the strikes.

And that's the end of the fight!
Eddie Valasquez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Valasquez has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
