The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Joonatan wants to clinch.
Joonatan shoots in for a double leg but Payne sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Payne throws a head kick that misses.
Payne tries to bum rush Joonatan with a series of wild strikes but Joonatan uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Payne makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Payne has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Joonatan avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Payne prevents Joonatan from breaking the clinch.
A nice left hand lands by Payne.
Payne on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Joonatan jumps into guard, dragging Payne to the mat.
Payne must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Payne passes Joonatan's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Payne missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Payne throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Joonatan is looking to improve his position.
Payne wants to control but Joonatan is keeping him busy.
Joonatan might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Payne decides to stand and escape the position.

Payne throws a right and a left that both miss.

Payne throws a sloppy head kick and Joonatan moves out of range easily.
Joonatan misses with a series of wild punches.

and Joonatan counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Payne looks gassed!
Joonatan wants to control from the top but Payne keeps moving.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Joonatan drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Joonatan jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Payne manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Joonatan manages to get himself to full guard.

Joonatan throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Joonatan striking off his back but it's not causing Payne any problems.
Joonatan bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Payne's guard.

Joonatan decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Payne, up you get!

Joonatan clinches up against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Joonatan blocks an uppercut.
Joonatan works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Joonatan breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Joonatan throws a right and a left that Payne avoids nicely.

Payne shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Joonatan's guard.

Joonatan has his foot on Payne's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Payne works his way back into a safe position though.
Payne postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

It looks like Teppo Joonatan has been cut.

Payne gets to his feet - Joonatan follows without any prompting.
Payne throws a head kick that misses
and Joonatan counters with a big head kick but Payne shrugs it off.
Joonatan fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Payne drops Joonatan with a straight left! Oh this is bad for Joonatan! Payne dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!
