PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Takero Yoshi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Job (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Job is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by I'm On a Mac. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Takero Yoshi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Steve Job!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Donald Grub and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yoshi misses with a straight left.
Yoshi shoots in looking for a takedown. Job tries to sprawl out of it but Yoshi keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Job manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Job uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Yoshi has time to react.

Job shoots in and bounces Yoshi off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Job missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Job has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Yoshi keeping moving, preventing Job from controlling successfully.
Yoshi wants to sweep here but Job controlling him for the moment.

Yoshi looking for subs off his back but Job has passed one foot through into half guard.
Job is looking to take a break and control but Yoshi is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Yoshi is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Job pulls his head out easily.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Yoshi fails with an attempt to clinch.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Job pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Yoshi throws a leg kick that misses.
Yoshi looks to throw the jab but Job is out of range.
Yoshi misses with a takedown
and Job counters with a nice body kick.
A big left from Yoshi misses.
Job displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Yoshi throws out the jab.
Job slips a jab and a cross from Yoshi.
Job avoids a punch combination nicely.
Yoshi is breathing heavily.
A looping hook to the body misses from Job. Yoshi does a little dance to reset his feet.

Job gets a takedown into half guard.
Yoshi is staying active underneath Job, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Job is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Yoshi to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.
Job trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Yoshi has his foot on Job's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Job works his way back into a safe position though.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Yoshi has his foot on Job's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Job works his way back into a safe position though.
Yoshi tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Yoshi is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Yoshi has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Job can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Job stands and throws Yoshi's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Job remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Job dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


A swing and a miss from Yoshi.
Yoshi fails with the takedown

and Job holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Yoshi turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Yoshi manages to end up in side control.
Job sneaks back into half guard.
Job is trying to stand back up but Yoshi is controlling him
Job works his way to full guard. Good work.
Job trying to keep a closed guard but Yoshi is proving a slippery customer.
Yoshi won't allow Job to sweep him here.

Yoshi wants to control from the top but Job keeps moving.
Yoshi throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Job works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Yoshi forces his way into half guard.

Yoshi not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Job makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Job.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Job working for a triangle but Yoshi defends it easily.
Job is breathing heavily.
Yoshi connects with a couple of short punches.
Job keeping moving, preventing Yoshi from controlling successfully.

Yoshi avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Yoshi thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Job is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Yoshi trying to control the position from guard on top but Job is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Yoshi pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Job is keeping the position for now.
Job is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Yoshi closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Yoshi lands in his opponent's guard.

Job pushes Yoshi off and gets back to his feet.
Yoshi takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Takero Yoshi will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Job uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Yoshi.

Takero Yoshi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Job misses with a looping right.
Job ducks under a wild hook from Yoshi.
Yoshi misses with a series of wild punches.

Yoshi throws a lazy right hand but Job sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

and Job decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Yoshi's guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Takero Yoshi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Job not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Yoshi is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Job is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Yoshi is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Yoshi has escaped and now he's on top!

Job has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Yoshi avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Job is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Yoshi is trying to maintain the position but Job is very close to passing his half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Yoshi regains full guard. Nicely done.
Job trying to control the position from guard on top but Yoshi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Yoshi wriggles free and stands up.
Job gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Yoshi doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Job counters with a stiff right hand.
Takero Yoshi is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Yoshi misses with a takedown attempt
and Job counters with a thumping low kick.
Job digs a good body shot into Yoshi's ribs.
Yoshi takes a shot to the body in his stride.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Yoshi tries to keep at a distance but Job has taken the fight into the clinch.
Yoshi wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Job wants the takedown. Yoshi is fighting it off but Job persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Yoshi's guard against the cage.
Yoshi manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Job manages to get himself to full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Job is on top in guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Job is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Steve Job comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Job has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
