PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jake VanVactor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anton Wasa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). VanVactor comes to the cage accompanied by Like a Pimp by David Banner. Wasa has chosen UK Subs - Warhead as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Anton Wasa was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jake VanVactor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anton Wasa!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Frank Dennis and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wasa throws a shot to the body.
Wasa throws a lazy right hand but VanVactor sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Wasa instigates a clinch.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Wasa.
VanVactor can't get the takedown.
Wasa gets underhooks to prevent VanVactor's takedown attempt.
VanVactor tries for a takedown but Wasa manages to get underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jake VanVactor. That's going to take a lot out of him.
VanVactor tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Wasa smiles and moves away.
Wasa throws a body punch but VanVactor moves out of range.

Wasa fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with VanVactor, pushing him back against the cage.
Wasa pushes VanVactor back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Wasa manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Wasa continues to stall. The referee tells him to work or he's going to break them up.
VanVactor tries to break free but Wasa pushes him back against the cage.
VanVactor blocks a body shot from Wasa.
Wasa misses with a hook to the ribs.
Wasa lands a body punch.
VanVactor drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Wasa gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Wasa prevents VanVactor from breaking the clinch.
Wasa just leaning against VanVactor, taking a breather.
VanVactor jumps guard but Wasa stands there with VanVactor around his waist. VanVactor gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

VanVactor wants to break the clinch but can't.
Wasa prevents a takedown attempt there.
Wasa stalls.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Wasa.
Wasa gets underhooks to prevent VanVactor's takedown attempt.
VanVactor jumps guard but Wasa stands there with VanVactor around his waist. VanVactor gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
VanVactor tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Wasa smiles and moves away.
VanVactor keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Wasa lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Wasa misses with a wild body shot.
Wasa defends well against a solid takedown attempt from VanVactor.
Wasa looks to land a right hand but VanVactor moved out of range.

Wasa uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by VanVactor.
Wasa tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but VanVactor was well out of range. Poor timing from Wasa.

Wasa swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

VanVactor tries to clinch there but Wasa circles away.

VanVactor fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Wasa sprawls well initially but VanVactor persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

VanVactor is trying to work for a kimura but Wasa is defending well.
Wasa is doing well to control the position and prevent VanVactor from advancing to side control.

VanVactor wants to work for an arm triangle but Wasa is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Wasa holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

VanVactor is looking for a kimura but Wasa is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for VanVactor to get the leverage.
Wasa really doesn't want to stay on the ground with VanVactor. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

VanVactor looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Wasa stuffs the takedown.
Wasa fakes high and swings low for a body shot but VanVactor manages to avoid it.
Wasa is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down VanVactor rather than just go for the knockout.
VanVactor keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
VanVactor takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
VanVactor uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Wasa.
Wasa cracks VanVactor with a right hand to the side of the head.

Wasa's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Wasa digs a right hand into VanVactor's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on VanVactor's gas tank.
Wasa prevents the takedown attempt.
Wasa content to slow the pace in the clinch.
The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Anton Wasa.
Wasa just misses with a punch to the body.
Wasa ducks down and throws a hook to the body but VanVactor moves away.

Wasa takes a swing at VanVactor's ribcage but misses.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Wasa loads up on a big right hand but VanVactor slips the punch.
Wasa fakes high and swings low for a body shot but VanVactor manages to avoid it.
Wasa circles away from the clinch attempt

and Wasa moves into the clinch.
Wasa misses with the head strike.
A right hook to the body lands for Wasa.
The referee calls for Wasa to work.
Wasa tries to throw a body punch but VanVactor avoids it by throwing Wasa back against the cage.
VanVactor drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jake VanVactor. That's going to take a lot out of him.

VanVactor has Wasa pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. VanVactor pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Wasa tumbling to the mat - VanVactor dives into Wasa's guard.

Wasa wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Wasa keeping moving, preventing VanVactor from controlling successfully.
Wasa looking for a sweep. Not yet Wasa, not yet.
VanVactor looking to sit in guard and control but Wasa gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Wasa got a little sloppy there for a moment and VanVactor has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wasa has managed to get both his arms back between VanVactor's legs - danger averted.

VanVactor is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Wasa defends well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
VanVactor keeping moving, preventing Wasa from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anton Wasa showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


VanVactor tries to score a power double leg takedown but Wasa sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten VanVactor somewhat.
Wasa dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

VanVactor is looking to stall here but Wasa recovers full guard.

Wasa is looking for a sweep.

VanVactor is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Wasa knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
VanVactor laying and praying for a moment but Wasa takes advantage and regains half guard.
Anton Wasa is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Wasa can do anything to dispel that myth.

Wasa is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
VanVactor wanted to stand there but Wasa had control of the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

VanVactor has gone for a leg lock! Wasa slips out almost immediately though and dives into VanVactor's guard.
Wasa passes into half guard.

The fighters are battling for position here. VanVactor manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Jake VanVactor has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jake VanVactor.
I think Wasa has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
