PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jason Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tru Payne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones comes to the cage accompanied by "Enter Sandman"- Metallica. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Tru Payne was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jason Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Tru Payne!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Chris Edwards and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Jones misses with a series of wild punches.
Jones tries to clinch but Payne moves out of range.
A jab from Jones does it's job there.
Jones lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Payne circles away quickly and effectively.
Jones throws a body punch but Payne moves out of range.
Payne fails to land the takedown.
Payne keeps the fight on the outside.

Payne looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Jones looks like he's trying to stand up.
Payne throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Payne seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Payne looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones is looking to escape.
Jones on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Jones tries to get out of the position.

Payne is trying to work for a kimura but Jones is defending well.
Payne uses his free foot to push down on Jones's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Jones.
Jones wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Payne.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Payne tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Jones wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Payne throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Payne trying to control but Jones is having none of it.

Payne has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Jones wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Payne.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Jones is trying to get back to his feet but Payne has full control of the position and if anything, Jones has just worked his way into a worse spot.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Jones scores with a one two! Payne had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Payne swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Jones moves into the clinch successfully.
Payne is trying to drag Jones to the mat but Jones just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
A frustrated look appears on Jones's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Payne keeps control of Jones as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Jones is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Jones wants to get back to striking at distance but Payne won't allow it.

Jones breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jones is looking to clinch.
Payne slips a jab and a cross from Jones.
Jones throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Payne counters with a nice double leg into side control. Jones won't be happy with that.
Jones wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Payne has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Payne takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Jones looks to land a combination but Payne avoids it well.
Jones throws a right and a left that both miss.

Payne gets a takedown into half guard.
Jones tries to kick Payne off but Payne keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Payne controlling the pace.
Jones looks like he's trying to stand up.

Jones tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Payne manages to move to mount!

Jones is squirming around, avoiding Payne's attempts to control the action.
You get the feeling that Jones really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Payne is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Nice uppercut lands for Jones. That snapped Payne's head back.

Payne closes the distance and clinches.
Payne jumps guard but Jones stands there with Payne around his waist. Payne gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Payne tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Jones just stands there and leans against the cage.
Jason Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tru Payne.

Payne is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Jones can't fight it off and eventually Payne manages to take the fight to the floor. Jones looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Tru Payne showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Payne seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Jones does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Jones pushes Payne off looking to stand but Payne dives back in and keeps control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Jones moves into the clinch.
Jones wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Payne has him pressed against the cage.

Payne misses with a hook to the ribs.
Payne goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Jones manages to break the clinch.
Payne takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Jones misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Payne.
Jason Jones has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Payne.
Jones is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Jones tries to circle away but Payne has him pinned against the cage.
Payne will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Jones up against the cage.

Tru Payne comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Payne winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
