Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Sam Benton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shang Tsung (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Benton comes to the cage accompanied by Kung Fu Fighting. Tsung has chosen Mortal Kombat Theme Remix as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sam Benton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shang Tsung!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Cecil Peabody and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Benton throws a leg kick which misses Tsung's front leg but catches the back leg as Tsung tries to avoid it.
Tsung moves out of range of the body kick.
Sam Benton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tsung misses with a leg kick.
Tsung misses with a wild body shot.
Tsung misses with a few strikes there.
Tsung tries to score with a low kick but Benton moves his leg out of the way.
Benton throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Tsung lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Tsung pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Benton lands with a nice body kick.
Benton moves out of range as Tsung strikes.
Tsung stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Benton.

Benton throws a nice outside leg kick.
A solid leg kick lands there for Benton.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Benton.
Benton throws a combination. Tsung tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Tsung checks a leg kick.

Benton moves away from the strike by Tsung.
Tsung throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Benton.

Benton is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Tsung's half guard.
Tsung wants to control but Benton is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Benton tries to pass the half guard into mount. Tsung knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Tsung is trying to get back to full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Benton lands a nice looking body kick.
Tsung lands a really nice looking cross but Benton seems unphased.
Benton throws a chopping leg kick but Tsung manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Tsung does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
A slapping leg kick lands for Tsung.
Benton slips a straight right by Tsung.
Tsung misses with a body kick.
Tsung tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Benton was well out of range. Poor timing from Tsung.
Benton ducks under a wild hook from Tsung.
Tsung is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Benton.
Benton fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Benton walks into a left hand.

Tsung misses with a double jab
and Benton counters with a leg kick.
Benton staying out of range there.
Tsung takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Tsung stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Benton.
Benton throws a lazy body kick
and Tsung counters with a stiff right hand.
Benton checks the leg kick.
Benton fails with a takedown attempt.
Benton tries a low kick but Tsung avoids it.
Benton tries to score with a low kick but Tsung moves his leg out of the way.

Tsung closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Benton is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Tsung off and has taken his back!

Benton cracks Tsung with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Tsung from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.

Tsung turns into Benton and is now in his guard.
Tsung looks gassed!
Tsung seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Tsung trying to control the position from guard on top but Benton is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Benton is on top in guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Benton closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Tsung gets back to half guard.
Benton throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Benton is thwarting Tsung's attempts to control the position.
Tsung blocking the ground and pound attempt from Benton.
Benton looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Benton is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Tsung sees it coming and defends easily.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

and Tsung counters with a slapping leg kick.
Tsung takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Tsung lands with a thumping leg kick.
Tsung wants to land a leg kick but Benton is out of range.
Benton tries for a takedown but Tsung circles away easily
and Tsung counters with an inside leg kick.
Tsung tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Tsung gets caught flat footed, as Benton shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Tsung pulls Benton in close to prevent any damage.

Benton thows a big elbow that misses.
Tsung bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Benton's guard.

Benton is looking for a triangle but Tsung pushes his legs off easily.

Benton is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Tsung is aware though and is defending well.

Benton is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Benton looking to hit a scissor sweep but Tsung is one step ahead there.

That was a close second round but I would say that Sam Benton will probably get the nod.

Tsung remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Tsung is looking to work his way around to Benton's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sam Benton.
Well Benton has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
