PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between hop sing (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kennedy Calaway (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Calaway comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Click Click Boom - Saliva kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, hop sing!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kennedy Calaway!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, George Francis and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
sing looks for a takedown but Calaway sprawls well.
sing displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Calaway.
Calaway shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with sing but sing pushes him off and we're back to square one.
sing shoots in but no luck this time.
Calaway misses with a jab, cross combination.

Calaway closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Calaway lands in his opponent's guard.
Calaway would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Calaway drops back looking for a leg! sing is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and sing manages to kick Calaway off! Calaway jumps back into sing's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Calaway wants to stand and escape but instead sing has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
sing trying to control the position from guard on top but Calaway is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Calaway can do anything to dispel that myth.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Calaway goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Calaway closes the distance and clinches.

Calaway pulls guard.
Calaway wants to sweep here but sing controlling him for the moment.
sing trying to control but Calaway is working from the bottom.

Calaway is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
sing jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Calaway walks away with a smile on his face. sing gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for hop sing. That's going to take a lot out of him.
sing shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Calaway as he avoids it easily.
Kennedy Calaway seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Calaway counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Calaway pushing down on sing's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Calaway trying to control from sing's half guard. sing has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Calaway wants to control from the top but sing keeps moving.

sing pushes Calaway off and scrambles back to his feet.
sing tries a head kick but it misses.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
sing displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Calaway.
sing scores with a head kick.
Calaway tries to clinch but sing is having none of it.
sing shoots in for a double leg but Calaway sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Calaway moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Calaway feints and as sing raises his hands in defense, Calaway changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Calaway wants to control from the top but sing keeps moving.
Calaway is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kennedy Calaway dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

and Calaway counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in sing's guard now.
Calaway tries to free his leg and advance position but sing is retaining full guard.
Calaway slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
sing manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
sing trying to control but Calaway is having none of it.
Calaway is desperately trying to improve his position but sing has a good base and remains in mount.

Calaway holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as sing tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Calaway working to try and regain half guard.
A nice elbow there by sing.
sing trying to control but Calaway is having none of it.
sing throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Calaway is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

sing has control of Calaway's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Calaway regains control of the situation pretty easily.

sing avoids the attempt from Calaway to control.

Calaway tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Calaway is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
sing looking to control but Calaway is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Calaway keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
sing wants to control the pace but Calaway is squirming around nicely.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
sing can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Calaway is looking to escape.
sing is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Calaway is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Calaway is looking to improve his position but sing isn't that keen on the idea.
Calaway tries to hold on but sing postures up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
sing misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
sing trying to control but he's not successful this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kennedy Calaway showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! sing's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Calaway thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
sing is trying to control but Calaway passes into side control!
Calaway is looking to take a break and control but sing is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Calaway decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
sing shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Calaway as he jumps to the side.
Calaway shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. sing defends it nicely.
A head kick misses from sing.

Calaway takes the fight into the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Calaway tightens his grip and picks sing up, before dumping him to the ground. sing manages to land in guard.
Calaway wants to control from the top but sing keeps moving.
sing wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Calaway trying to control but sing is working from the bottom.

sing has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Calaway can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Calaway gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

sing gets caught flat footed, as Calaway shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Calaway stops sing from standing up.
Calaway stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. sing swivels though and keeps the full guard.

sing had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Calaway defends it easily.

Calaway stands up from guard. Let's bang!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Calaway fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
sing leaves Calaway with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
hop sing has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kennedy Calaway.
A combination from sing does no damage.

Calaway gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
sing has had enough of the clinch but Calaway keeps him there for the moment.
Calaway misses with a knee to the head.

Calaway pulls guard effortlessly.
sing stopping the sweep attempt from Calaway.
sing wants to control from the top but Calaway keeps moving.

Kennedy Calaway comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Calaway has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
