PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dan Augusto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Defe Matias (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Augusto's entrance music is Killing in the Name Of. A fine choice. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dan Augusto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Defe Matias!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Leandro Rodrigues and Luis Engracia.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matias changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Augusto tries to avoid it but Matias manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Augusto to the ground. Augusto escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Augusto closes the distance and clinches.

Augusto manages to break the clinch.
Augusto swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Matias shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Augusto as he jumps to the side.
Matias shoots in but no luck this time.
Dan Augusto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Defe Matias.
Augusto pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Augusto forces Matias back against the cage and clinches.
Matias is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Matias jumps guard but Augusto stands there with Matias around his waist. Matias gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Matias tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Augusto content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Matias is desperately trying to improve his position but Augusto has a good base and remains in mount.
Matias tries to hold on but Augusto pushes him away.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Matias is working to get back to half guard.
Augusto content just to control the position here.
Matias wants to control but Augusto is having none of it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Augusto takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Matias lands a nice hook to Augusto's body. Augusto takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Matias wants to clinch up but Augusto keeps it at a distance.
Augusto throws a series of punches but Matias avoids them all with ease.
Matias gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Augusto counters with a nice uppercut.

Matias drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Augusto gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Matias is trying to force a seperation but Augusto has the dominant position.
Matias has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Augusto is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Augusto leaves Matias with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

and Augusto counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Augusto.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
