Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Frankie Edgar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kieron King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). King has chosen Men at Work - Land Down Under as his entrance music. Kieron King has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Frankie Edgar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kieron King!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Donatello Bradman and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Edgar throws a series of punches but King avoids them all with ease.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Edgar can't break the clinch.

King pulls guard.
King striking off his back but it's not causing Edgar any problems.
Edgar lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
King wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Edgar with a flurry of punches that miss.
King pulls Edgar in close to his closed guard and prevents Edgar from doing any damage or advancing position.
King trying to strike off his back.
King lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Edgar!
Edgar tries to control the position but King now has his back.

King is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Edgar defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
King throwing strikes and Edgar squirms under the pressure, ending up mounted.
Edgar working to try and regain half guard.
King thowing shots but they're missing.
Edgar holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as King tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Edgar is squirming around, avoiding King's attempts to control the action.
Edgar knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for King on the ground.
Edgar blocking the ground and pound.
King throwing strikes here but Edgar is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
King misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
King trying to control but Edgar is having none of it.
King sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

King working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Edgar holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as King tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
King looking to ground and pound but Edgar is blocking nicely.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Edgar wants to hold on but King pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kieron King dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


A telegraphed takedown attempt from King is defended easily by Edgar.
Edgar throws a right and a left that both miss.
Edgar throws a head kick but King moves out of range.
Edgar defends well against a solid takedown attempt from King.
Some wild striking there from King.
Edgar swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Edgar throws a right and a left that King avoids nicely.

King scores a takedown into full mount!
King looking to control but Edgar is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
King might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Edgar kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
King is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Edgar tries to hold on but King pushes him away.
Edgar's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
King trying to control but Edgar is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Edgar tries to get back to half guard but can't.
King looking to land elbow strikes but Edgar uses the position to regain half guard.

King looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
A shot to de liver by Edgar. Beautiful body shot.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Edgar lands a really nice looking cross but King seems unphased.
Edgar throws a series of punches but King moves out of range.
Edgar throws a head kick that misses.

King closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Edgar is not content to let King control the position.
King has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

King tries for a kimura but Edgar is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

King has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kieron King showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


King tries to score a power double leg takedown but Edgar sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten King somewhat.
The fighters circle momentarily. Edgar darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
A head kick misses from Edgar.
Edgar misses with a low kick.
King scoring well with a low kick there.

King looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
King stalling away here and it's allowed Edgar to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
King trying to control the position from guard on top but Edgar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's one minute gone in the round.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
King is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Danga de danga de dang - Edgar scores with a four punch combination!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Edgar looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
King tries to close the distance and clinch but Edgar swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from King.
Edgar moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Edgar stuffs the takedown attempt from King. King gets slowly back to his feet.
Frankie Edgar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kieron King.
A swing and a miss from King.
King throws a head kick but Edgar moves out of range.
Frankie Edgar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
King changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Edgar tries to avoid it but King manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Edgar to the ground. Edgar escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Edgar misses with the combination.
A head kick from King lands but Edgar takes it in his stride.
King looks for a takedown but Edgar sprawls well.
King fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
King slips a jab and a cross from Edgar.
Frankie Edgar is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
King throws a sloppy head kick and Edgar moves out of range easily.

King feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
King stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Edgar swivels though and keeps the full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kieron King comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got King winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
