PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kenny Gomi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Szyslak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Gomi might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Slaap lekker!. Szyslak is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Metallica-Enter Sandman. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kenny Gomi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nick Szyslak!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Atkins and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gomi drives through with a takedown into guard.
Gomi stops Szyslak from standing up.
Gomi passes Szyslak's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Szyslak keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Gomi is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Gomi trying to mount his opponent but Szyslak defends it.
Szyslak pushes Gomi off but Gomi dives into side control.
You can see the frustration on Szyslak's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Sloppy strikes there by Gomi.
Gomi controls the position from side control.
Gomi is looking to take a break and control but Szyslak is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gomi is trying to ground and pound but Szyslak uses the momentary lack of control by Gomi to regain half guard.
Szyslak regains full guard. Nicely done.
Gomi with a flurry of punches that miss.
Gomi throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Szyslak works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Gomi is looking to work some ground and pound but Szyslak has wrist control.

Gomi drops back looking for a leg! Szyslak is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Szyslak manages to kick Gomi off! Gomi jumps back into Szyslak's guard.
Gomi has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Szyslak wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Gomi is now in half guard.
Szyslak is trying to escape back to his feet but Gomi uses the scramble to pass into side control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Szyslak prevents Gomi from improving position.
Gomi tries to score with some ground and pound. Szyslak controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Szyslak parries the strikes from Gomi easily there. Gomi is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Szyslak to escape.
Gomi fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Szyslak throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Gomi avoids a punch combination nicely.

Gomi gets the takedown into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gomi moves out of range as Szyslak strikes.
Szyslak throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Szyslak works the jab nicely.
Szyslak scores with a hook to the body. Gomi takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
A punch combination from Szyslak misses.
Szyslak will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Nick Szyslak is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Gomi closes this distance looking for a takedown but Szyslak circles away.
Gomi shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Szyslak as he avoids it easily.

Szyslak misses with a two punch combination.
Gomi throws a right and a left that Szyslak avoids nicely.
Gomi is looking to slow Szyslak down with leg kicks.

Gomi misses with a hook.
Gomi fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Gomi misses with a few strikes there.
Gomi scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Gomi scores with a crisp jab that stopped Szyslak in his tracks.
Gomi has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kenny Gomi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Szyslak is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Gomi just misses with a punch to the body.
Szyslak moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Szyslak drops his hands momentarily and Gomi takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Gomi lands with an overhand left.
Gomi with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

Szyslak throws a leg kick that is checked
and Gomi counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Szyslak throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Szyslak misses with a double jab
and Szyslak takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
A big left from Szyslak misses.
Nice body kick from Gomi.
Szyslak slaps away a takedown attempt from Gomi, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Gomi pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Gomi throws a body punch but Szyslak moves out of range.
Nick Szyslak seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gomi moves out of range of the body kick from Szyslak.
Szyslak lands with a straight right. Gomi didn't see that one coming.
Gomi scores with a nice head shot.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Gomi.
Szyslak connects with a nice looking jab.
Szyslak throws a hook to the side of Gomi's head but Gomi sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Gomi swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Szyslak counters with a crisp one two that drops Gomi! Szyslak thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Gomi to his feet! Gomi is in big trouble!


Gomi is rocked!
Gomi tries to get into range but Szyslak steps to the side and lands a beautiful hook that drops Gomi! He's faceplanted into the mat, ass in the air... he's out cold! That's an image he won't want to show his grandkids when he gets older! Szyslak scores the big KO victory!
