Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alan Shepard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wayne Carey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Alan Shepard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Wayne Carey!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Bruno Hogan and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carey throws a leg kick but Shepard checks it.
Shepard changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Shepard scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Carey looks gassed!

Shepard closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Shepard content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Shepard has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Shepard slows the pace down in half guard.
Shepard's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Alan Shepard just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Shepard looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Shepard lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Carey circles away quickly and effectively.
Carey tries a head kick but it misses.

Shepard fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Carey sprawls well initially but Shepard persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Shepard passes to full mount!

Shepard controlling the position easily from mount.
Shepard seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Carey for as long as he can get away with.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Shepard prevents Carey from getting the reversal.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!
