PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Oskari Jokinen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kurt Liddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jokinen comes to the cage accompanied by Prodigy - Firestarter. Liddell has chosen Just Another Victim by Helmet & House of Pain as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Oskari Jokinen has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Oskari Jokinen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kurt Liddell!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Alec Ball and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jokinen tries a head kick but it misses.
Liddell avoids the head kick by Jokinen.
Jokinen plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Jokinen tries to close the distance and clinch but Liddell swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Jokinen misses with a head kick.
Liddell takes a kick to the side of the head.

Liddell fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Jokinen sprawls well initially but Liddell persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Liddell drops an elbow to the side of Jokinen's head.
Liddell is looking to advance position but Jokinen won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Liddell is just content to waste time from the top position. Jokinen takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Liddell wants to control from the top but Jokinen keeps moving.
Liddell works over Jokinen with some ground and pound from guard.
Jokinen will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Liddell throws a strike but Jokinen rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Jokinen tries to free his leg and advance position but Liddell is retaining full guard.
Jokinen wants to get up but he can't break Liddell's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Jokinen is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Jokinen has gone for a leg lock! Liddell slips out almost immediately though and dives into Jokinen's guard.
Liddell stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jokinen swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Jokinen is trying to control the position but Liddell postures up.
Liddell slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Jokinen wants to sweep but no luck.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Liddell is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Jokinen's half guard.
Jokinen is staying active underneath Liddell, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Liddell shoots in looking for a takedown. Jokinen tries to sprawl out of it but Liddell keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jokinen manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Liddell throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Nice shot lands for Jokinen.
Jokinen fakes the leg kick and cracks Liddell in the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Liddell changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jokinen tries to avoid it but Liddell manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jokinen to the ground. Jokinen escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Liddell shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Jokinen sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Liddell accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Jokinen escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Liddell gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Jokinen has momentary wrist control but Liddell slips an elbow through the middle.

Liddell distracts Jokinen with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jokinen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Liddell doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Liddell manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Liddell stands up over Jokinen, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Jokinen looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Liddell frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Liddell cracks Jokinen with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Liddell is landing with some decent strikes but Jokinen is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Jokinen takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Liddell's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
