Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rudy Perry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bas Rutten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rudy Perry has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rudy Perry!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bas Rutten!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perry throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rutten's waist but Rutten gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Perry off to one side.
Rutten swinging wilding here.
A big left from Rutten misses.
Rutten dips to his left and cracks Perry with an uppercut!
Perry fails with the takedown.

Perry scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Perry in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Perry tries to advance to mount but Rutten instead regains half guard.
Perry throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Rutten wants to get back to full guard.
Perry has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Perry thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Rutten throws a head kick that Perry semi-blocks.
Rutten throws the kick towards the body but Perry avoids it.
Perry closes the distance and clinches up with Rutten, looking for a takedown. Perry pushes Rutten against the cage but Rutten circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Rutten misses with a hook. Perry ducked under it nicely.

Rutten scores with a nice body kick.
Perry is breathing heavily.
Rutten misses with a series of wild punches.
Perry has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rutten uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Perry has time to react.
Perry shoots in and drives through. Rutten sprawls well.
Rutten lands with a thumping leg kick.

It looks like Rudy Perry has been cut.
Rutten misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
No joy there for Rutten, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Rutten jabs Perry right on the nose. Perry blinks but takes it well.
Left hook, right uppercut from Rutten.
Rutten throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Nice uppercut there from Rutten.
Perry showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Rutten.
Rutten throws a head kick that half lands.
Rutten comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Rutten misses with a head kick.
Rutten thows a body shot but no joy.
Rutten looks to land a right hand but Perry moved out of range.
Nice sprawl there from Rutten as Perry shoots in.
Rutten clobbers Perry with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Perry shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Perry was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Rutten really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Perry. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Perry punching from mount but Rutten doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Rutten wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

A nice elbow there by Perry.
Rutten tries to lock up and control but Perry gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Perry with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Rutten just holding on.

Perry looking to secure an arm triangle but Rutten defends it well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Rutten wants to hold on but Perry pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Rutten throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Rutten.
Rutten lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Rutten.
Perry fails with a takedown attempt.
Bas Rutten seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Perry uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Rutten.

Rutten looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

Perry thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Perry is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Rutten has escaped the position, nice work there.

Perry tries to advance to mount but Rutten denies him.
You can see the frustration on Rutten's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Perry swings around for an armbar but Rutten sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Perry's guard.
Perry wants to sweep but no luck.
Rutten slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Perry looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Rutten is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Perry had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Rutten defends it easily.
Perry keeping moving, preventing Rutten from controlling successfully.
Rutten wants to pass the guard but Perry is keeping the position.
Rutten trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Perry manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Rutten is looking to stand up but Perry isn't so interested in that idea.

Perry stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rutten swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Perry tries for a takedown but Rutten sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Rutten lunges at Perry with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Perry's hand.
Perry shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rutten pinned against the cage. Rutten gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rudy Perry. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Perry shoots in but no luck this time.

Perry looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Rutten!
Rutten is desperately trying to improve his position but Perry has a good base and remains in mount.
Rutten tries to hold on but Perry postures up.
Rutten might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Perry kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

A close second round but Bas Rutten will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Rutten throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Perry shoots for a takedown but Rutten saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Rutten misses the shot to the body.
Bas Rutten seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rutten will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Perry.
Rutten can't do much from the bottom here.
Perry working the ground and pound but Rutten is defending the strikes.
Rutten is trying to buck Perry off.
Rutten looks to move to half guard but instead Perry has passed into mount! Damn!

Perry throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Perry prevents Rutten from getting the reversal.
Rutten takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Perry breaks from Rutten's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Perry scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Perry cracks Rutten with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Rutten is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Perry has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Rutten's face.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A nice elbow there by Perry.


Rutten is rocked!


It looks like Bas Rutten has been cut.
Perry looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Rutten covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!
