Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Joe Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alessio Meridio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Meridio has chosen All That Reamins - The Air I Breathe as his entrance music. Joe Smith has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joe Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alessio Meridio!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith misses with a jab, cross combination.
Joe Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Smith is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Meridio's half guard.
Smith throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Meridio moves into full guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Meridio wants to stand up but Smith is controlling him.
Smith postures up and lands a big shot to Meridio's brow.

Smith stands and steps away. Meridio gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Smith is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Smith scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Smith lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Meridio down.
Meridio gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Smith scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Smith working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Meridio has hold of Smith's hands but Smith slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Smith tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Meridio.

Smith looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Smith is nestled in close to Meridio, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Smith decides to return to a standing position.
Meridio is looking to clinch.

Smith shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Smith was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Smith jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Meridio is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Meridio and Smith has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Meridio throws Smith to one side and escapes!

Smith closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Smith lands in his opponent's guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Meridio is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Smith is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Smith throws a strike but Meridio avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Meridio pushes Smith off and scrambles back to his feet.
Smith tries to clinch up but Meridio circles away and keeps his distance.
Meridio has his takedown stuffed

and Smith decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Meridio's guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Meridio is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Smith shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Meridio napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Meridio can't do much from the bottom here.
Joe Smith overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Smith thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Smith tries to stand but Meridio is controlling his head.
Meridio regains half guard.

Meridio feints and as Smith raises his hands in defense, Meridio changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Meridio won't allow Smith to get back to his feet.

Smith has his foot on Meridio's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Meridio works his way back into a safe position though.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Meridio will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Smith drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Smith jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Meridio has a closed guard, preventing Smith from standing up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Meridio shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Smith counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Smith wants to stand and escape but instead Meridio has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Meridio is on the wrong end of a couple of strikes there.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Joe Smith.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Smith, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
