PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rinta Pelle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shane Carwin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carwin has chosen Mama Said Knock You Out as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rinta Pelle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Shane Carwin!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Winston Howard and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Decent striking displayed by Pelle there.
Some wild striking there from Pelle.
Carwin connects with a jab.
Carwin bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Carwin connects with the punch.
Carwin misses with a looping left.
Carwin has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Carwin takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Carwin dodges the punch combination from Pelle.
Carwin tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Pelle throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Carwin scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Pelle swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Carwin counters with a series of strikes. Pelle will be more careful next time no doubt.

Carwin steps into range and cracks Pelle with a monster punch that buckles his knees! Pelle flops backwards and Carwin dives into his guard looking to finish!

Pelle has momentary wrist control but Carwin slips an elbow through the middle.
Carwin trying to control but Pelle is working from the bottom.

Carwin is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Carwin advances to half guard.
Carwin is taking a breather. Pelle says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Carwin missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Carwin wants to stand but Pelle has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Carwin looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Carwin trying to control from Pelle's half guard. Pelle has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Carwin sitting in guard here, content to control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carwin trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Carwin has gone for a leg lock! Pelle slips out almost immediately though and dives into Carwin's guard.
Carwin keeping moving, preventing Pelle from controlling successfully.
Pelle has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Carwin escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pelle gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Carwin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Pelle is one step ahead there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Carwin is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shane Carwin dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Pelle throws a big shot that misses.
Carwin misses with a wild combination.
A jab from Pelle misses.
Shane Carwin seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Carwin wants to clinch up but Pelle keeps it at a distance.
Carwin drops his hands momentarily and Pelle takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Rinta Pelle seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pelle throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Carwin has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Carwin there as he acknowledges the shot.
Pelle throws a left and a right that both miss

and Carwin counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Pelle looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Carwin tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Pelle is trying to break the clinch but Carwin has him pressed against the cage.

Carwin manages to break the clinch.
Pelle throws a left and a right that both miss
and Carwin counters with a three punch combo that has Pelle backing up. Pelle nods at Carwin to acknowledge the strikes.

Pelle scores with the left hand. Carwin knows he should have avoided that one.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Pelle lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Carwin circles away quickly and effectively.

Pelle swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Pelle will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Carwin misses with a wild combination.
Pelle throws a left and a right that both miss

and Carwin counters with a shoot takedown. Pelle fights it but they end up in guard.
Pelle knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Carwin on the ground.

Carwin slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Carwin wants to control but Pelle is keeping him busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Carwin misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

Carwin working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Pelle on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Pelle tries to get out of the position.

Carwin wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Pelle, who protects the arm well.
Carwin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Pelle keeps working.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carwin throwing shots but missing, from side control.

Carwin tries for a kimura but Pelle is defending well.
Carwin is looking to take a break and control but Pelle is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Carwin stands up and beckons Pelle to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Pelle falls off balance throwing a combination
letting Carwin counter with a right hand.
Pelle misses with a looping left.
Pelle misses with a wild combination.
Pelle throws a looping overhand right but Carwin ducks down to avoid it.
Carwin pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Pelle throws a nice looking combination but Carwin bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Carwin lands with a nice body punch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Pelle keeps the fight on the outside.
Rinta Pelle is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Carwin avoids a punch combination nicely.
Carwin lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shane Carwin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


The fight stays on the outside here - Carwin looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Pelle paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

letting Carwin counter with a right hand.
Carwin scores with a one two! Pelle had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Pelle fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Pelle throws a combination that misses

and Carwin holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Pelle wants to break the clinch but can't.

Carwin pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Pelle is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Nice combo by Carwin! Oh, that's hurt him - Pelle falls to the canvas and Carwin follows him into side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Carwin in side control here. He's dropped a big elbow there and Pelle looks hurt! Oh, he is hurt! Carwin turns on the heat and pounds him out for a TKO victory! Good killer instinct there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:53 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Shane Carwin!
